This review is for the TAG Heuer Grand Carrera Calibre 8 GMT (black dial, steel bracelet.)

I bought this watch for myself in September 2010 and I am very pleased with it. The watch is wonderful, and is clearly of the highest quality.

Don't be fooled: the picture on Amazon is a terrible misrepresentation of how beautiful this watch is. Check out TAG Heuer's site for a better idea of the colors of the watch and watch band - the face is dark graphite grey/black, and the bezel, markers, and strap are fine-brushed or polished stainless steel. Because the sapphire crystal is treated with anti-reflective material, the face can appear to be a deep navy blue in some lights or at some angles.

The watch comes with all the original TAG Heuer literature, including a COSC certification card (not the actual certificates, but a card noting the movement's certificate number,) the international warranty card with the watch's serial number (not filled out and not valid because Amazon is not an Authorized Dealer,) and the sales tag, which also has the watch's SN (all these match the serial number etched on the back of the watch.)

In keeping with the COSC Chronometer standard, this watch keeps excellent time. My checks show it to be off no more than a few seconds a day (fast,) which is better than anyone needs anyway. The Chronometer certification proves that significant care was taken during the manufacturing of this timepiece.

One concern is that the band of this watch may not be long enough for everyone. I have a 7" wrist and only had the two half links removed, so if you have a wrist over 7.5" you may find yourself looking for more links or a new band.

My only other complaint is that the second time zone shown in the 6 o'clock aperture is 12-hour, not 24-hour, so if you are tracking another time zone (for instance, GMT) you may find yourself wondering whether it is PM or AM there (the watch does not denote this in any way.) This isn't a huge issue for most people, but GMT watches should display the second time in 24-hour format to clear that up.

The sapphire caseback is a big plus - it's great to see the inner workings of this watch, and TH has done an excellent job of decorating the movement.

Finally, a word on pricing: my nearest Authorized Dealer sells this watch for $4400 (plus almost 10% sales tax,) so I saved over $2300 out-the-door by buying through Amazon. There are serious advantages to buying from an AD, but with Amazon's nearly 50% discount it is hard to pass up the deal. I would, however, only suggest buying from Amazon, shipped through Amazon - not from another site that Amazon may link you to.

This is an amazing watch also looked at the other designs this one was the most unique yet simple as well as the most functional. Sure I could've gotten a more complex, bulkier and more expensive watch with lost of dials and bells and whistles but frankly who uses them! The only real addition feature this has is an additional time zone which is all most would really ever need. I have chronograph watches but honestly when was the last time you had to time someone sprinting across a length of track or doing laps in the pool? This one is just perfect, it has enough weight to feel like something of value but not too much as many of the watches these days tend to be. It is also not too small for me it is just right and the photo here does not do it justice. It has an anti-reflective coating which actually creates a hint of blue across the entire face rather than grey as it appears here. I am highly satisfied with this timepiece and expect to be able to pass it on to my children and grandchildren.
