Top Customer Reviews
The mechanical movement is visible through the display back, and is a standard Unitas 6498, though in a high-grade and with beautiful detail work done by Tag Heuer. I enjoy watching the gears move when I wind the watch in the morning, and occasionally hold it to my ear to savor the old-fashioned ticking sound of this classic movement. The movement, by the way, was originally used in the 1950s to power pocket watches, and is popular today in large wristwatches like the Calibre 1, a few Panerai models and many others. It is a simple movement that is easy (thus economical) to service and which can be adjusted to very high standards of accuracy. In the month that I've had my Calibre 1, the watch has gained 1minute and 3 seconds compared to my Calibre S, a quartz watch that loses 2 seconds per month, making this the most accurate mechanical watch I own.
The watch came in a "Grand Carrera" wood box with both rubber and alligator straps and a tool to change them. I ware mine almost every day and use the rubber strap for a sporty appearance, as I have far dressier watches for courtroom use or formal occasions. With the alligator strap, however, this would also make an excellent dress watch for an active man.
Power reserve is supposed to be about 40 hours, and while I have left the watch sitting for 36 hours, I have not tested its maximum run time.Read more ›
