Although i would not consider myself an expert on the Tamil language or any part of Indian culture, i would say i do know this, i listened for elements of musical quality and vocal quality. Warning: this album is not for everybody. my opinion only: i LOVED Shalini's voice for what it was, and was in love with its childlike shrillness. i agree with the previous person, she did sound like she was 10, but that is where i found the charm. i only wished the quality of the cd was better, you can bearly hear her or the music, even at the highest volume on a cd player! i thought the music (up to number 9) was FABULOUS. yes, they are very sugary pop tunes, but then again, that's what the album says, "Tamil Pop Songs". i think Shalini has a phenomenal unique voice. i am not saying it is powerful or strong or a typical normal voice, it is very different, but i just loved how it was so high and pretty. if you like cutesy pop combined with exotic indian ethnicity, with a high, sharp-sounding, even piercing voice that is soft and sweet, then this album is for you. Shalini is one of my favorite Indian vocalists, along with Alisha, who is brilliant.

Interested in the Tamil language I bought this CD even though there were no reviews, but it is disappointing. Shalini must be about ten, and her music is like young Debbie Gibson, even dabbling in rap with an older male singer. It's too bad the rich cultural/musical tradition of India's Tamil ethnicity has so little representation.
