If you can operate a CD player, you can use the CD-GT1mkII. Take any standard compact disc by your favorite band and put it in the CD mechanism. Then plug your guitar directly into the CD-GT1mkII's 1/4" input. Put on some headphones, set the volume, and start rocking! If you're a vocalist, you can do the same, substituting your microphone for the guitar. Tascam has built in this everything needed for guitar enthusiasts who want to break down note by note to aquire otherwise hard to find notes as well as finger picking style.Now with this device one can quickly advance to playing such classic rock stars like steve howe from the group yes. I am not a sheet music reader but have a very good ear and yet could not keep up with such accomplished masterpieces such as the "clap" until now.Try finding any tabs online to play the "clap"! NONE nodda! and now with this instrument, i can slow down and not only find the right notes but feel his finger style as well.This will make it easier for you to figure out tough songs period. Make sure you opt for a 9 volt adapter as this eats up regular batteries, rechargables batteries recommended. I highly recommend this for advanced musician

This is a useful tool. I haven't explored too many of its features, but the ability to easily isolate a section of music and play it over and over at reduced speed (without changing the pitch, although you can do that too) is great for helping learn parts. It does a good clean guitar amplification as well; I haven't fiddled with the effects much.

My only complaint is that the manufacturing quality could be a bit higher. I'm not convinced it's made to last. Also, I've had some problem with cds skipping or repeating (when I haven't set it to do that). Just re-inserting the cd fixes that, but it shouldn't happen in the first place.

I bought the Tascam CD-Gt1mkII portable cd guitar trainer for my son (age is 17). I've found that he loves the trainer and uses it over and over to learn the lead guitar parts of favorite guitarists such as Carlos Santana, Gary Moore, and even Joe Satriani. The slower-downer feature allows him to hear the parts of interest with minimal distortion. I would suggest getting the battery eliminator since you will find someone using up all the batteries in the house as they use this device for hours on end. Highly recommended.
