5.0 out of 5 stars Great coffeetable book plus great gift, August 11, 2009
This review is from: TASCHEN's Paris (Hardcover)
Being from 3.5 hours outside of Paris I have been many many times and this book makes you relive your trips all over again. Even if you have never been there and don't intend on going this makes for a great coffee table book. It contains beautiful photos of hotels, restaurants and shops. It's also a great gift for someone who just moved or bought their own place. I recommend the author to anyone. Angelika Taschen has many great books. A+

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book!, March 2, 2011
This review is from: TASCHEN's Paris (Hardcover)
This is a truly amazing book. It has the high-quality color photographs one expects from Taschen, along with wonderful maps. The graphic design is excellent - each page is both visually appealing and easy to read, and the tabs differentiating the three sections (hotels, restaurants and shops) are the perfect design solution to navigating such a large book.

The book covers hotels, restaurants and shops in Paris. Each hotel, restaurant and shop listing includes a brief overview of the history and design of the establishment and several pages of glorious photographs. Each section is organized by neighborhood:
Palais Royal / Musee du Louve
Champs-Elysees / Etoile
Montmarte / Pigalle
Marais / Bastille
Pantheon
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
Saint-Sulpice / Sevres-Babylone / Montparnasse
Musee d'Orsay / Rue du Bac

If you are planning a trip to Paris, by all means consult this book, but don't expect to carry it around with you -- it is large and heavy. It is an interior design book as much as a travel guide, a photographic tour of the architecture and interiors of commercial Paris. It is an excellent source of inspiration and ideas for designers. Highly recommended.
