4.0 out of 5 stars a good book for those seeking combat proficiency, August 5, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: T'Ai Chi Combat (Paperback)
Crompton takes an evenly scientific point of view in this book he discusses the workings of Tai chi chuan as applied to combat. However this book is only based upon Mr. Cromptons experiences, though these are quite considerable. An excellent book for the westerner coming to Tai Chi combat for the first time.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good basic guide to using the techniques of Tai Chi for actual street self-defense., August 13, 2009
This review is from: T'Ai Chi Combat (Paperback)
The average martial artist when seeing the slow, relaxed movements of most Tai Chi training do not recognize the combat applications of this art. The author of this book presents a more balanced approach to Tai Chi, emphasizing both the Yin and the Yang of Tai Chi. The author stresses the fact, that this is not a book for someone who has never done Tai Chi before, and I agree with him. It is best to have some experience doing a Tai Chi form (no matter what style) to appreciate and get the most from this book. Even though I am a certified Tai Chi instructor, and I am familiar with several of their forms; nevertheless, I continue to question some of the so called combat applications of Tai Chi. It may be because I have had experience with numerous other combat martial arts; however, I do think this book has some good and solid information that is of value for anyone practicing Tai Chi. This book will work best when combined with training under a combative Tai Chi instructor.

Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Monadnock Defensive Tactics (MDTS) System).
