I can only wonder why they don't reissue more of the detail & scale books. They are an excellent bargin - full of color photos, clear shots of interior, close ups that provide detail & make this a perfect book for modelers.

The Grumman Avenger was the best US bomber/torpedo naval carrier bomber of WW2. It had range, could carry good load of bombs and was rugged. Over 10,000 were made serving as scouts, Anti-Uboat (Atlantic), carried radar, bombs or rockets.

Aviation fans who want a really close in look at the Avenger will be very pleased. There are 4 pages of line drawings in 1/72 scale showing differences between each version, good narrative, the captions are helpful. I also like a section that reviews different model kits which are often amusing.

This book currently lists at 14.00 - I bought mine used & saved even more. Great book & addition to the library.

In true detail & scale fashion, the Avenger has been brought to life on the pages of this book. Details that only those who built or flew her would have the chance to see. The historical aspect alone makes this book (and the In Detail & Scale series) worth the price. The scale model review details the points where a pureist whould need to make improvements. Over all, the Avenger In Detail & Scale continues the heritage of the best comprehensive aviation & scale modeling reference manuals available.
