Buttons work smoothly. Case is heavy duty. Very versatile device.
The six channels can be used as input or output. You can even have multiple outputs and inputs going at once. The device is very flexible in how you can use it. I have seen similar devices at radio shack for about the same price, but this is much higher quality, using more industrial construction methods. Five stars, at least. Old school quality.

Excellent Value,

Solider than consumer gear; nice clean switches.
Since each port can be either input or output and each is independently switched, the unit functions as a small audio router. I'm using it to route the audio from home A/V equipment to a pair of powered speakers and to a common line out. 3 in, 2 out, 1 spare. The fact that it is not powered is another plus. All I could find at big box stores were flimsier A/V switches for more money. I had no need to switch the composite analog video (!) that those support.

It's low tech, simple to use, not bad looking and it does what it's supposed to: switch between audio sources with no change in audio quality.

Not much to say, works great and the switches are 'old fashioned' heavy duty.
I guess I'll buy a couple more of these.

I have been trying to find something like this for 2 years! I needed to connect two separate audio sources to one single output thru my tuner and have both audios play at the same time, and this did the trick. Due to the limited A/V connections on my equipment, I couldn't get everything to connect like I needed it to. I was just about to give up and buy some different equipment and now I don't have to. Thanks for saving me a lot of cash!

The solution to my issue. Be informed that the selectors operates as a common place: you push a button and you connect the button assigned device to the common place. So, to connect the tuner to the amplifier, you have to push both buttons (the tuner one and the amplifier one). In a common utilization the amplifier button should be always depressed. It can handle five sources and one amplifier or four sources and two amplifier and so on, the sum of attached devices is six. Every channel has a 1 KOhm resistor so the signal going to the amplifier has to cross 2 resistors in serie and its impedance is increased by 2 KOhm. This prevents possible issues when matching devices but could attenuate a little the signal. Not a defect, this is a good way to have no hassle on not powered devices as this selector. If you push down two or more source buttons you will hear two or more audio programs. But it is not to be done, the tipically low output impedance of sources will lower the signal very much expecially if one source is powered off. Known this, it is an excellent and very flexible solution to connect an amplifier to more sources it could handle by itself. And, if you need, to connect one source to five amplifier (watch at the possible attenuation due to each amplifier input impedance). No ground loop in my case, not any noise imported. Five star without doubt!

Metal hard casing with quality sturcture.Do the tricks fine. Some static sounds with more than 2 sources pluged in tho. You will need alot of different cables and converters.

I purchased this to use for some simple engineering setup involving 5 audio inputs to one output (amplifier).
(It's replacing a more cheaply made switch box where a couple of switches eventually failed.) Likes: * Very solid, metal feel in contrast to other consumer audio devices like this that are often light plastic. * The weight makes it easy to depress switches * Combo of 3.5mm for two inputs RCA for 4 inputs is helpful. * Though I don't have use cases for it, the flexibility is interesting: - any signal may be input or output - the ability to "sum" multiple inputs to output(s) Dislikes: * Due to the approach of all signals just link to a common bus, to switch from one input to another input you must press two switches (one off, the other on). So this is a bit awkward compared to other switches that make one signal selection automatically unselect others. * Since all signals are input or output, I do kind of wonder how it's managed electrically, with my equipment output signals potentially receiving an input from other signals. But dislikes are minor... I really like the switch and the price is good.

I use this box to connect my TV, phone, and computer to a home stereo amplifier and wireless headphones. It works as expected without clicks or pops. The buttons feel solid and overall it feels well made. There are no inputs or outputs -- everything is simply on the same bus. If two buttons are pressed, then those items are connected. The same applies with three or more buttons. Very versatile!

Once upon a time every A/V setup had a component called a "receiver," which was basically a radio with Tape, Phono, and Aux inputs and built-in amplifier to feed unpowered speakers. Then a CD input got added to the receivers when those became common. We still have such a system in our den. But in the living room we have a set of powered speakers into which we feed sound from a multitude of audio gadgets. Until I got this little switchbox, we frequently had to plug and unplug cables. This switchbox comes with an assortment of labels to stick below the buttons so you can remember which source is controlled by each button. |
