Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Nova System is the complete, floor-based effects solution for the dedicated guitar player who knows quality when he sees it. Its unique inclusion of an all-analog programmable distortion/overdrive section under preset and expression control makes it the perfect choice whether you want to trim down your rack setup, step up from your pedal patchwork or simply just want the ultimate combination of operational simplicity and audio superiority.

Add to this an array of effects taken straight from the king of floor-based processors; G-System and you have top-notch compression, EQ, noise gate, modulation, pitch, delay and reverb right at your feet. All you need is a guitar and an amp and you’re good to go – first class.

Genuine, Analog Drive Circuit
What makes Nova System so remarkably different is the NDT™ - Nova Drive Technology - a unique, new drive and distortion circuit that gets you the best of both worlds: World-class analog distortion and overdrive with digital control. This is the real deal – no modeling. While the NDT™ is 100 percent analog and physically separated from the digital effects, its control potmeters are digital. This way you can tweak, store and recall as many drive settings as you want - you can even hook up an expression pedal and control the amount of distortion in real-time. Its wide gain range covers your every need from light breakup to heavy distortion.

Top-notch Effects
Equipped with TC branded quality effects from delays and reverbs to compressor, EQ and modulation, Nova System is the obvious all-in-one solution for any guitarist who wants setup simplicity without sacrificing tonal fidelity. All neatly programmable and storable in 60 user presets. Its 30 factory presets give you a demonstration of just what this unit provides; great sound quality and an immense versatility of effects combinations – all designed to get you started right out of the box.

The sound quality is incredible.

I've had no luck with buying various pedals and to me, Line 6 just seems kind of played out as well as cheap.
Cory
The analog part of distortion and overdrive sounds amazing I recommend actually very organic and natural.

This is a fantastic effects processor. I went back and forth and tried the Boss gt-8, Vox, Boss individual pedals, mxr, fulltone etc. This unit is much much better. I connect it through the effects loop on my fender hot rod deluxe and play through different guitars - fender tele (with double humbuckers pick ups), esp and epiphone hollow body jazz. I have also played this on a solid state marshall. This unit's compression settings along with the analog sounding tube like distortion gives my fender just what it needs to sound close to a great metal tone. And simultaneously it gives me superb reverb, delay and chorus to play jazz. In addition this has a boost and pitch settings. Cosmetically it is a great looking unit as you can see from the picture and approx. 40% lesser in size than the Boxx GT8. The switches light up in an orange light, which looks really nice.
It is a great foot controlled effects processor and focuses on TC level quality effects rather than middle of the line effects and a lot of other bells and whistles like the other processors. TC claims that the blocks are taken straight from the G-System, which costs over a 1000 dollars. This a real value for money deal TC quality effects at a great price.

Verified Purchase
Summary: This is a great addition to an effects loop, but the gain options are a little limited and there's a steep learning curve. That being said, what few options there are really sound fantastic.

Just as some background, I'm a pedal collector and typically prefer to use a board. I purchased one of these to use at my church and save me the trouble of hauling my pedal board around, and I've been using it in front of a Marshall TSL for about a year.

The analog overdrive is very smooth and responsive compared to similar processors, and the effects sound even better, but this unit simply can't deliver high-gain tones. Even kicking it up to full drive on the distortion setting, you'll be disappointed. It can be a bit unfriendly to the user to, with a series of motions, buttons and dials to use any time you want to change anything.

However, when I run it in the effects loop of a Mesa Maverick, the effects really dazzle. The chorus, flange, octaver and delay all sound wonderful behind a tube-driven gain. They sound so good I'll never record without it again.

Sure, any pedal over $300 is a lot for a pedal. But what you get here is well worth the price of admission. I picked up the Nova System to fill in some gaps on my pedal board in the effect area. Several of my pedals are analog, which are great, but having a digital delay for pristine cleans and a digital chorus were needs. Especially for songs with more gain. I also needed a tremelo for occasional use. The analog drive is really nice, but I still prefer my amp's gain and separate drive pedals. I also should add I use my compression pedal separate from the Nova.

For live playing, using the Nova with my board is a breeze. If I need to, I can pull the Nova and run it direct into a PA, which is also a nice option. I have some pretty basic presets that I use, especially the delays and run that together with some of my other gear. Live, it sounds amazing...no getting around it. If you are doing home studio work, again, pretty great. I suppose if you are doing a professional studio recording, you may want more individual pedals. But for average players, it's tough to beat the quality of the various effects.

The Nova isn't perfect. At it's original price, Line6, Boss and Digitech make more complete floor units. It also is not super intuitive to use and doesn't just plug into a PC without a Midi converter. Even then, downloading presets or software updates is not as easy as it's competitors. No looper, no expression pedal and a lame tuner round off the negatives. Even after the price drop, it's still more than some very popular floor based units.

I got on this after the price drop and would encourage anyone to give it a look, even the boutique crowd.

What a great find. I play a variety of guitars: Original Gene Baker, Parker Fly, Custom Strat, and an Ibanez Euphoria (acoustic electric) live and studio. I have been able to use the presets and variations to the max for all four guitars. Built like a tank, seamless effects transitions, typical TC quiet, very easy to program from scratch or edit. Even though I have a Dumble, Hermida Zen, Stampede, Tube Screamer...the OD and Distortion pre's are pretty cool for the smaller gigs or light studio work. Sounds great in front of all my amps and direct into the board (live or studio). I play a lot of jazz, R&B, funk, folk, many rock genres, just no banjos. Heh, works great and is extremely versatile. For me it's a winner. A+ and had I not bought a G System rack... I never would have thought to buy this for not just convenience sake, but a plethora of sonic "paints" to choose from for the proper application. Great for when I fly out to a gig. Make em cry or melt some faces. Nice job!

I have been using the Nova System for a little over a month now. It's really an outstanding unit. Not the most intutive user interface -- in fact it would be near unusable if TC did not post the 'How to' videos on their site. I noticed the videos after struggling with the unit for about a week. Once you understand the use model, it's really easy to use.

I use the unit before the preamp (do not have an effects loop in the amp). The processed sounds are outstanding. I would highly recommend the product.
