I was skeptical at first when I saw the price and brand. I normally only purchase Panny, LG, or Samsung. But after some research I found out that TCL commonly orders its panels from samsung suppliers. After I pulled the trigger and bought the TV (arrived next day for additional 3 bucks thanks to prime!) I held my breath. Worst case scenario, I was going to be returning it.

the TCL 43inch arrived in a TCL cardboard box that didn't bring too much attention to itself (good for in-city shipping). I pulled it out and plugged it in to check for backlight bleeds, etc. Not only could I NOT find any blemishes or bleeding, but I couldn't find any substantial light leak - was this truly a great purchase??

I threw the TCL on it's stand (took a little finicking but what do you expect) and plugged in my ps3. I threw in my blue ray of Avatar and skipped around to get an idea of its color and black level performance. I was thoroughly impressed. I didn't have to do much picture adjustment and it looked like a TV worth a grand.

Aesthetics: the TCL has a very very small bezel around the edge - giving you the impression that the screen is floating and expensive. It looks wonderful against a wall and in the middle of a room. Oh, and by the way, if you purchase an LG or Samsung you have to deal with an obnoxious on/off light and branding on the bottom frame, the TCL brand is tiny and there isn't a running light (just a small red off light - much like NEC). Its just simple. And that makes it gorgeous.

Pros:
- Value is a key factor here, 43'' screen is a lot of real-estate and with 1080p, it can double as a monitor.
- In addition, the looks of the TV gives the impression that its worth a lot more than what you paid.

TCL is not a well known brand like Samsung, or SONY, but it offers exceptional value for money. I am very happy with this purchase (so far) with the only regret being that I should have bought a 55" or 60" LED, but those were not discounted at the point of time when I bought my TV, so it will be 43" inch for now. BTW, I am not sure if many people know that TCL is one of the companies that Samsung outsources to (Refer -[...])) and so it is very likely that for a fraction of price of a comparable Samsung TV, you are enjoying the same quality.

One of the things missing in this TV is no wi-fi or smart TV. But think of it, you just bought a TV for $399, and a comparable smart TV is at least $ 300 more expensive. You could now put a Roku box (around $ 60), Sony Media Player (around $ 60), google TV or maybe even a netbook or laptop (averaging $ 300) and you have SAME or MORE functionality than a smart tv would ever offer, plus you can unhook the roku, media player or laptop and take it with you when you travel - Can you do that with a smart tv?

Pros:
2 year warranty covering labor and parts
Exceptional clarity and brightness
No patches - deep blacks and rich colors
Green TV - running cost will be $ 12.

I started out with the 40" LED several months back. I can't say enough good things about it. The picture is awesome (HD through the digital antenna, Blu-Ray and Xbox 360 via HDMI). The fit and finish are top notch, and I'm comparing them to My 40" Samsung (that died after barely 2yrs, and a 40 Sony Bravia my parents still use). I needed a smaller sized tv in the 20"-24" range and picked up the TCL 24" LED. Again, nothing but great, and it looks sleek and high-end even when it's off. The last was this 43" LED that showed up yesterday. Same beautiful picture I've come to love and expect, but now in a slightly slimmer package with a micro-thin bezel. This TV puts most other brands I've seen to shame. Factor in the price, and I cant wait to see what $388 will get me a year or so from now. I do like the idea of a 2yr. warranty and I know the manufacturer has even responded to other TCL reviews on here. I haven't had a friend over yet that didn't comment on the great picture these things put out even with just a HD chanel off my antenna.

Also, to set things straight... Many review sights claim that Samsung "let" TCL use some of their screens in TCL branded tv's, but no one has data as to where this actually cam from. The truth is, in 2008 Samsung contracted TCL to make some of it's panels for 2009 production. It was unclear (according to the post in Reuter's) whether or not Samsung authorized TCL to use these same panels in their TCL branded tv's. Either way it's insignificant to me. If Samsung (who reportedly has a reputation for having the most top-notch panels) trusts TCL to manufacture for them and uphold this reputation, that's all I need to hear. Also note that CES rated TCL in the top 20 TV brands globaly all the way back in 2009.
