5.0 out of 5 stars Extra brightness really helps!
This bulb is excellent! I was already using a 27 Watt CFL with 5100K color temperature, replaced it with this one, and the extra brighness just made things better. Based on research I've read, in order to combat SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder, you need to get the brightness in a room above 1000 Lux. These are the bulbs to use to do it. I haven't been able to find...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good but not great
This is quite large and will not fit many fixtures. It is supposed to be high CRI (Color Rendering Index) but a Minolta spectrum tester shows a lot of green and it is deficient in red and blue. The 5100K is nice and it is overall a good value.

I haven't been able to find any other manufacturer that makes a brighter standard-base bulb with 5000K CCT (correlated color temperature) or higher (which is also recommended).

Be aware though, that the total component height is 7 inches from the bottom of the screw fixture to the top of the glass spiral. So you need about 6" of space for the bulb.

I like the light this bulb gives off, but I found the buzzing too annoying to have by my desk. I'll install it in the cellar.

I bought this bulb to light up my bedroom. It has a nice white color (5100K). It perfect for lighting up a small room by itself (2800 lumens). Its worth it to spend a little extra instead of buying a cheaper yellow (2700K) bulb.

This light is a bit larger than ordinary CFL bulbs. It's super long and would probably not fit into many closed fixtures. Luckily, I use these as porch lights in hanging lanterns. The light output is brilliantly radiant!

3.0 out of 5 stars O.K. but don't last as long as state, December 3, 2009

These bulbs did the job. Their small size allowed concentrated light with a tiny profile, fitting perfectly my needs. The negative is they did not last anywhere near 10,000 hours, though the newer LEDs don't last as long as they are suppose to either. When these bulbs blew, I purchased then again anyways.
