TDK 8CL11 8mm Dry Head Cleaner

After being very satisfied with this product that I had for a while, I needed a new 8mm head cleaner, so I tried the maxell one (dry) that is often found on online auction sites. The cleaner I got only worked in "play" mode, and did not do a very good job of cleaning. After searching high and low for the TDK cleaner I had before, I did find this available through amazon. Does a great job. I use my digital8 camera outside nearly every day taping action footage, and find it invaluable to have on hand. Also a good cleaning before transferring video to computer or DVD. This takes about 10 secs on record.

Yes, yes, yes, I know a wet cleaner is better than a dry head cleaner like this TDK product. That said, there is not an alternative so I went ahead & tried this product out on my 4 year old Sony Digital 8 camcorder (the TRV-460 I think). The camcorder had perhaps 60 hrs of recording time on it (plus 60 hours playback) & it had become totally inoperable. A couple of 10 second applications w/ the head cleaner & all was well. Once or twice since then I needed to re-clean but overall I'm very satisfied.

Our Sony camcorder had reached the point that the playback was no longer watchable (image was quite distorted). We are not happy that Sony no longer supports its products by not manufacturing a 8mm head cleaner, but we were pleased to find that TDK made such a product. I am very happy to report that after just one cleaning our camcorder playback is perfect. This is a wonderful product.

My HI8mm machine was working just fine but I wanted to be sure the heads were clean to do a special project. After using this cleaning casette it rendered my machine useless. It will now not record or play any tapes.

Unforturnatley for me I did research on dry cleaning casettes after the fact. Many experts warn about these casettes ruining otherwise good machines. They instead recommend running a brand new tape for about 20 minutes as this will clean the heads safely.

I would like to sue the company the makes these things.

My old Sharp Hi8 recorder would not play tapes at all after a tangle up in the machine. The mechanism progressed properly but displayed very little, if anything. I bought this cleaning tape as a last hope and it worked perfectly.

Outstanding product, saved me from spending hundreds of dollars on unneeded repairs or having to just toss the camcorder altogether.

I pulled my Digital8 camcorder out of the junk closet a while back because I wanted to watch some old tapes that were of considerable nostalgic value to me. Unfortunately, none of the tapes would play correctly at all; there were a ton of lost frames, skips, and banding, making the tapes totally unwatchable.

I didn't really expect it to help when I ordered this cleaning cartridge, but I figured it seemed like a cheap thing to try. After running the cartridge through the camcorder for the 10 seconds recommended on the label, I popped one of my tapes in and lo and behold, it worked! I checked the rest of the tapes and now they all play back correctly too. Looks like the cleaning cartridge really saved the day.

I had hoped this would save a problem with horizontal black-line video noise in high-contrast areas. Unfortunately, it did not.
