4.0 out of 5 stars TDK MP100 very good for value!
I purchased these headphones with no real expectations in regards to their sound or indeed any other aspect of their performance, whether it be comfort or otherwise.
However, I was happily surprised. I use them mainly for listening to my MD and gaming, and have found them to be very detailed in their sound reproduction. Of course, its nothing like what a 400$AU pair...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good value headphones for general usage
I bought the MP100 (AUD$24) because they were cheap, because I have faith in TDK as a brand and they looked pretty decent. I also have a pair of Sennheiser HD320's (supra-aural design), and used these for reference.

I bought the MP100 (AUD$24) because they were cheap, because I have faith in TDK as a brand and they looked pretty decent. I also have a pair of Sennheiser HD320's (supra-aural design), and used these for reference.

The MP100's are a closed back design, DJ style without all the fancy features of your standard DJ fare (HD25, etc). They're a simple pair of cans and I was hoping to use them as a secondary pair at work - purely for music, not games or watching DVDs.

I am not an audiophile, nor a sound engineer, although I have studied audio engineering for a year or so. I'm a musician as well as a music lover and would like to think I have discerning ears!

The HD320's are a pair of headphones I have had for some years now, and I've grown accustomed to their light weight, comfort and very natural sound. They were great value when I bought them at AUD$120. I can listen to them all day without fatigue and because they sit on gently on my ears as opposed to gripping tightly, they are very comfortable. The flipside is that they fall off rather easily!

The Sennheiser design seems to be of a generally higher standard than the TDK - quality plastics, cord, connector, 1/4" adaptor, etc. You would expect this at 5 times the price.

The TDK's are firmer on the head, with a nice cushion underneath the headband. They grip quite firmly without being too tight, although if you have large ears you might find that your ears don't fit perfectly.

Sonically, how do they compare? Well the Sennheiser's are definitely the winner and that's what I expected. BUT, the TDK are far from being ....

The TDK's are more trebly and tend to have a slightly more EQ'd nasal and brittle sound. I don't listen to these at high volume for hours because they are fatiguing. The mid range on the Sennheiser's is far more natural and vocals sound more forward and defined.

The Sennheiser's also have a warmer and solid bottom end, whereas the TDK appears a bit thinner.

My audio source is just my PC, running through a Creative Sound Blaster - no fancy stereo components here. It's a good test I guess because many people out there buying the TDK's would be on a tight budget.

Here's the verdict - the TDK's are decent. They will be fine for casual/general listening - look good and sound alright to boot. They won't please an audiophile or a serious muso/engineer, yet you wouldn't expect them to at this price.

They are definitely better sounding than some Sony's I have used at double the price and FAR more comfortable too.

Well done TDK, I look forward to more of your products in the future!

I purchased these headphones with no real expectations in regards to their sound or indeed any other aspect of their performance, whether it be comfort or otherwise.
However, I was happily surprised. I use them mainly for listening to my MD and gaming, and have found them to be very detailed in their sound reproduction. Of course, its nothing like what a 400$AU pair of Seinheissers or Sonys get you, but in the price/performance ratio, TDK has really outdone themselves.
When compared to my other pair of KOSS headphones that retail for roughly the same price, the TDKs are more comfortable, and reproduce sound with a more natural sound. I think that TDK really deserves a pat on the back for their effort with the MP100 and thats a compliment I rarely give.
And lets not forget...At around $AU25, these headphones are really the best low-end ones I've seen to date...
Well Done!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great sound but..., December 5, 2008
This review is from: TDK MP100 Monitor DJ Stereo Headphone (Electronics)
I'm writing this review because my case doesn't seem to be the norm. I bought these a while back and probably paid something like $10 for them so it was worth the try. The sound was impressive! They're not a Bose or Sennheiser, but hey they're $10. However, there is an important problem to note...they weigh half a pound!! While that might not seem like much, it becomes a lot after extended use. I think you can say my ears are medium to small and the headphones still press on them quite a bit. Beyond mere discomfort, these actually hurt! So, if they fit you that's great and you'll be getting a good deal. If it's just sound you want without paying a lot, go with these above all the other low-priced headphones! But if you want a 5 ounce lightweight item of comfort for long periods of time, you've gotta go with Bose.

5.0 out of 5 stars very well made product, April 24, 2010

These headphones do a good job at blocking out the outside noise or sound. They have very good sound for the price and much better then a lot of other headphones at this price. I was impressed enough to buy a second pair for a spare in case something happens to these. I listen to music on an MP3 player and we all know what can happen to headphones being used that way.

Overall the sound is very good though. I was impressed. The one bad thing that i did notice is that even though they do fit good and are very comfortable, if you jerk or move your head a lot, then these headphones do have a tendency to move or slid while on your head. There is not a lot of tension on the part that goes over your head so there is not much pressure on the side of your head which is part of the reason that they can slide. If you do not move your head a lot then they stay on fine though. I am talking about things more like head jerking, doing a lot of looking from straight to down at your feet, etc. Other then that, they are an excellent headphone and well worth the money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the older model, March 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: TDK MP100 Monitor DJ Stereo Headphone (Electronics)
I ordered these headphones to replace a pair I bought (same brand, same model) a few years ago. I LOVED the older headphones, but the new ones don't feel as good. The material they're made from feels cheaper and they don't fit as well. One feature of the older model I really liked was that the cord was only on one side of the headphones, but on the new model, the cord is attached to both ear pieces. The sound is good, but the fit could be better...

Not bad headphones for beginners. I wouldn' really recommend these for real DJ's though. The downside to these is that they come with f_cking nine feet of cable. That's just f_ucking ridiculous.

To add to the previous reviews, I can wear these headphones for hours on end without any discomfort. The sound reproduction, though not at par with $400 headphones, is pretty damn good. You get a lot of value for the $ your spend.

I've tried many headphones, and these are not the most expensive ones out there. I thought I had to pay tons of money to get great sound. Totally not true. These are great. The bass is real good and they protect your ears. Hey, they even double as earmuffs when it's cold or windy. Love em!

I didn't have very high expectations for these headphones. I had bought some really really good ones several months previously but they were stolen, so I was looking for a cheap yet nice replacement for earbuds. Upon receiving I was head over heels about them. The sound quality is great and they're very comfortable. My only complaints are that the cord itself is made of a stiff plastic that holds form for a long time, such as the zig-zag shape after unraveling it from the case. I would much prefer a more rubber like plastic that was free-flowing. Also, the inside of the ear-pieces occasionally the part that emits the sound 'cracks', making a snapping noise and occasionally giving kind of a static shock to your ears. This may only be my product and the way I use them (constant outdoor walking), but overall they're great!!
