I just received this beautiful monster and I couldn't be more happy.

Upon arrival, the first thing you'll notice immediately is just how enormous and heavy this Boombox is; it feels solid and has an aura of quality (and it weighs like 30+ pounds!). From the wood handle to the silky-smooth rotation of the metal dial to the touch-screen panel controls, to the beautiful backlit displays (with good typography) it feels more like what you'd expect from Lexus, Leica or Bang and Olufsen than TDK, clearly their design team was trying to make a statement that TDK is back, and it appears they've succeeded with this stunning example.

iPod, iPhone and iPad integration all seems to work flawlessly with the supplied USB to 30-pin connector cable.

I've only been listening to it now for an hour or so, but the sound quality so far is phenomenal. I listen mostly to electronic music and indie rock, which the TDK handles without a hitch. The mids and highs are clear and the bass is full and solid without feeling boomy or hollow the way some less expensive systems can sound. Volume isn't an issue; sound quality remains good even turned up loud (I've gone half way up, it's so lound I feel like my neighbors will start complaining if I go louder).

I've owned many boom boxes and portable speaker systems and this blows them all away. In fairness, it's also more than twice as expensive as any boom box I've ever owned, too. Sound quality is more akin to a high-quality bookshelf stereo system than a portable.

If you're a lover of design, high-quality construction and full, balanced sound I recommend checking the 3-speaker boom box out for yourself.

Well built, beautiful, and sounds amazing. Very big and heavy. Sometimes when listening to iPod with the power supply it crashes. The aux cable provided is very thin and cheap, gets bad connection sometimes, have to play with it to make it stop buzzing. Overall I love this thing, one of the best things I ever owned.

No CD Player (I know CD's are getting old but still the size of this thing is, it could have a sliding CD reader)
Drains batteries even when off. (I think might be because I left UBS stick in it)
Doesn't recognize Apple music files when played through USB hard drive.
Bass sound quality goes down with volume. Best sound quality is at 50%-75%.

This thing would be perfect with internal hard drive or SD Card slot(removable upgradable hard drive), a removable rechargeable battery (or make it so you can recharge the 12 D batteries in it without taking them out), a remote, and a CD player. And also maybe a better ipod/iphone connection, maybe a dock like feature. Why can't engineers ever develop something to perfection, they always leave something out. I think the speakers can handle more amplification, so they could of made it to run on more power when powered from AC.

I would highly recommend this product to everybody. Best Boombox Ever.

Wow, It sound even better than before. No more crashing problems. My friends are blown away by the sound quality of this little thing. The speakers can handle a lot more volume if hooked up through an external amp. It survived a week in a salty desert (Burning Man). To me this boombox is perfect, it only lacks a remote control, but everything else is fine. Having replaceable batteries is more practical and useful. Sometimes when listening to it with my eyes closed I can't believe that such sound quality is coming out of these little speakers. I am thinking of buying another one and using them together like 2 PA speakers.

I bought it because of its beautiful looks, but now I just care about it's sound quality. I would buy this boombox if it was ugly. I am amazed that it sounds this good and I am an audiophile.

The TDK 3 Speaker Boombox stands out from other music players in its category. It should! The TDK 3 Speaker Boombox costs a great deal more than every other unit you'd logically compare it to.

This stylish piece of hardware manages to pull off a modern yet retro appearance. Fittingly named, the 3 Speaker Boombox is profiled with three large uncovered speakers, two woofers and one sub-woofer. Completing the 3-speaker look, TDK designed/built two tweeters over-top the two woofers. The forty pound Boombox is well-crafted and solid, apparently built with high quality material.

Some of the unit's highlights include, but are not limited to the following.
bass and treble EQ with dynamic graphic analyzer
touch capacitive input selector
on-board mixer allowing users to simultaneously set volume levels of two blended audio sources
limited playback distortion at relatively high/room filling volume levels
an LCD track name display for MP3 title selection and playback
AC and DC power options
relatively portable
decent bass response for many songs
an array of audio inputs (mic, component line-in, electronic instruments/gear, apple devices like iPod, USB drives)

Disappointing aspects of this unit include, but are not limited to the following.
no remote control
no place to secure or dock the user's audio source player (negates the portability of the unit)
no SD card slot/option
no Bluetooth compatibility
awkward AM/FM antenna setup (negates the portability of the unit)
no dedicated mid-range mid-level EQ adjustment options
average overall tonal/sound quality (considering the price)
no enhancement of the sound quality of sub-par MP3/audio files

Techies and music enthusiasts will appreciate TDK's 3 Speaker Boombox as a fine piece of audio gear. However, the unit's price is far from wallet-friendly, as it lacks a few features and its overall performance could be a little better. When considering portable audio equipment of this nature, know that TDK's 3 Speaker Boombox breaks away from the pack. At this time, its only true competitor is Monster's Beats by Dre' Boombox. At $500.00, it's doubtful that the average Joe will be purchasing TDK's 3 Speaker Boombox until after the price goes down.
