The headphones have soft padding on the earpiece and the part that rests on the head, which makes them comfortable.
Lovely D.M.
The fact that the store was clearing these out for 70 bucks was too good to pass up.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I've been testing the ST800 headphones for a week now by listening through them for at least two hours a day to various sources and types of music and sound. I've tested them with and without the built-in equalizer powered on (they work fine when the equalizer, which only allows for adjustments to bass and treble, is powered off, though the volume control and mute button built onto the right earpiece do not function when the equalizer is off). I've used them for listening to various radio broadcasts on my 1st generation iPad through the iPad TuneIn Radio app, with the ST800s attached to a FiiO E11 Portable Headphone Amplifier that is connected to my iPad via a FiiO L3 Line Out Dock (LOD) Cable. I've used them for listening to music on a Sony MP3 player, and for listening to music as well as the soundtracks of movies and TV shows on both my laptop and desktop computers. (I used the E11 with the laptop, while connecting the ST800 directly to the headphone jack on the Logitech Speaker System Z523 with Subwoofer that is connected to my desktop (I also tried this with the E11 between the earphone jack and the ST800s). I've used the ST800s while working out on an exercycle and elliptical (with the iPad/E11 combo as the sound source), and I've used them when reclining on a couch and in bed.

Based on that, I would say that they are stellar for listening to rock, excellent for some classical, and not very good for use when watching movies, etc.

I have recently become a bit of headphone junky. It is my short and simple conclusion that for under $100, these headphones are a HOME RUN. Please, don't overpay for the childish "b" emblem with muffled, over-exaggerated bass sound. These headphones sound better, look better (at least, to my taste) and, most of all, cost far less.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
These headphones are a joy to unbox: part of the price tag certainly went into the indestructible and well-designed box they arrive in; the built-in EQ can be seen and gets you a little excited about getting them out and plugged in... you get the box open and you notice the braided, indestructible cord: nice! You also notice the included batteries (cheap off brand but at least you don't have to go digging for some AAA's to enjoy the EQ). You also note the extension cable, the carrying bag... and, leather accents on the exterior of the headset!? Very nice. All in all, you begin to understand the price tag. User guides in four languages are provided, informing you how to use the EQ, insert batteries into the left can, and use the can on the right as a big volume knob.

OK... then the initial euphoria wears off and you put them to the test. I picked out something monstrous to check out the 50mm drivers, and it certainly passes the test: I turned it down before my head exploded and/or ears bled on the high notes. I then switched to something softer with more dynamics and requiring greater clarity; cranking the volume brought out all the little details brilliantly, and as before no fuzz was ever heard: when things got quiet, the earphones produced dead silence even with the volume cranked. They pass the sound quality test easily.

Comparisons... I've recently reviewed the Creative Aurvana "Live!" headphones and the Sennheiser 558 Audiophile headphones; the Sennheisers are about $60 less than the TDKs at the time of this review; the Live! headset was about $140 cheaper. Of all three, I think the Sennheisers have this wonderful, airy, almost 3D sound that is just an absolute joy to listen to. They are also extremely light and comfortable.

Let me be honest and say I do not own many pairs of headphones. These were my first "big boy" headphones coming from a world of Apple's earbuds and other knockoffs. The thing that caught my attention about this product was the overall line of TDK's "Life on Record" series. They seem well designed and had pretty good reviews. I agree. The ST800's sound nice and are comfortable. The provide an overall pleasant listening experience with decent low's and good isolation. The cable on the headphones is braided and seems durable, but becomes a little unmanageable once it tangles...at least on mine. The battery powered EQ is a cool idea, but kind of an impractical solution. You have to turn it on and off every time you want to listen and it doesn't do a great job of fine tuning the audio anyways. The ear pads are comfortable, but end up being kind of cumbersome. I know big headphones are in, but these might be larger in comparison. In conclusion, I'd say at the current price of around $100, these are definitely a good buy on headphones. I can't wait to get my hands on some of the other "Life on Record" products!

I bought two pairs of these headphones based on the reviews I read here. The fact that the store was clearing these out for 70 bucks was too good to pass up. I have one pair at home and one in the office where i use to block the chatter noise around me and I can work in isolation. I am a great fan of the TDK brand of the earphones, having earlier bought a couple of pairs of the EB900 model of inner ear phones from TDK. Those were on clear out for 20 bucks as well. What a great deal these phones are for the money. The sound quality is to my ears excellent. i listen to blues mostly and a well defined musical bass is a must and these phones provide a full sound without limiting the highs.I do not want to assert these are the very best you can get and these will surpass some of the other brands. But I can certainly confirm what some other reviewers have noted (see also EB900 reviews): the TDKS have a unique sound signature with a slighly compressed soundstage when compared against my alternates M-Audio Q40. The sound is crystal and clear and do not hurt my ears at any volume level. I strongly recommend you give these a try if you can, or if they can be had at a bargain price--buy them, you will likely conclude the value per dollar is too good to pass up!! I rate this at 4 stars since there is cable noise and some static occasionally comes through the plug. But I am very pleased with my purchase and wont be in the market for a pair of phones unless of course another too good a deal to pass up comes my way.
