Misrepresented product: shelves are NOT hardwood,
By UCF Professor (Orlando, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: N/a
The shelves on this bookcase are a thin veneer over some kind of pressboard or fiber board. They shelves have hardwood only at the edges where they attach to the rest of the frame. The frame is hardwood. The veneered shelves were already warped just from the weight of the rest of the bookcase parts resting on them in the box. I called Stacks and Stacks, explained why I was disappointed, and they said they would have to get in touch with the manufacturer and would call me back. They haven't called me back, and they were very uncooperative when I spoke with them. If they make good on this, I will post an updated review, but in the meantime, I can't recommend the product or the company.
UPDATE: It took a little over a week, but Stacks and Stacks did send UPS with call tags to pick up these bookcases for return. SECOND UPDATE: The bookcases arrived back at the vendor December 30th, 2005. The refund posted to my account February 2nd, 2006. So, while I FINALLY got my money back, I would be reluctant to do business with them again because of their slow customer service and the misleading description of their product that persists, despite this incident. FINAL UPDATE: Stacks and Stacks now admits in their description that the materials from which this bookcase is constructed includes veneers and MDF. I see they now offer other products, such as "DVD CD Bookcase", which they claim to be made of solid wood. Could be, but I would check carefully with them first. |
