5.0 out of 5 stars Great rack for the price
This is an unbeatable rack at this price point. I have not seen better at this price, but I have seen a few lesser racks.

This rack provides much security when lifting heavy. I have no doubt that if I fail on a lift, those solid 1" steel safety bars will take the weight. I have not been able to find a rating on this rack, but I would be surprised if it...

1.0 out of 5 stars The quality of this rack is a huge gamble!
I ordered this item directly from New York Bar Bell. You can see some pictures of the rack that I received in the Customer Images.

The quality of my power rack is sub-par. There are metal burrs left behind from when the holes were punched out for the safety bars. Plan on having a metal file on hand to remove these after you spend time to assemble it...

This is an unbeatable rack at this price point. I have not seen better at this price, but I have seen a few lesser racks.

This rack provides much security when lifting heavy. I have no doubt that if I fail on a lift, those solid 1" steel safety bars will take the weight. I have not been able to find a rating on this rack, but I would be surprised if it couldn't handle 800-1000 pounds.

One of the best things with this compared to similar racks is the large variety of add-ons. I have dip bars, olympic weight holders and bar holders. Monster trays, barbell trays, lat attachments, crossover attachments, plate trees, monster hooks and additional chinup bars are available.

I have two gripes with this rack. One is that it is light. This allows for easy movement when racking weights. I solved that by using the plate holders for my 45# plates. Not only does it stay put better, it has less sway at the top of the rack. You could also bolt it to the floor. The other issue is the small washers provided for assembly. They are only a little wider than the heads of the provided bolts. If you tighten them enough, you will bend the metal. Had I known that, I would have spent a buck at my local hardware store for bigger washers to disperse the force better.

All-in-all, this is a great rack and will serve me well for many years. Only a true powerlifter would outgrow this rack.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Power Rack that is great for the home., August 9, 2008
This review is from: Power Rack (Misc.)
I bought this rack about a year ago directly from New York Barbells because they were having a sale at the time. It was fairly easy to put together and it comes with a free lifetime warranty card. It is sturdy and as compact as you could expect it to be. My main complaint with the Rack is with it's chin up bar. The knurled grips on the bar were sharp on my hands and it ripped through my calloused hands really fast. A problem I was able to solve by covering the bar with tennis racket grip tape.

Another thing about this power rack is that it is relatively light. This attribute is great when you need to move it around but it needs to be weighed down if you are doing pull ups or loading a heavy bar on the front of the rack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Power Rack for the Money!, August 21, 2009

Great rack for the money. Great for any novice lifter looking to begin weightlifting. I suggest buyers of this Power Rack get a copy of the book Starting Strength also.

1.0 out of 5 stars The quality of this rack is a huge gamble!, February 28, 2011
This review is from: Power Rack (Misc.)
I ordered this item directly from New York Bar Bell. You can see some pictures of the rack that I received in the Customer Images.

The quality of my power rack is sub-par. There are metal burrs left behind from when the holes were punched out for the safety bars. Plan on having a metal file on hand to remove these after you spend time to assemble it.... otherwise they will strip the paint right off your safety bars. There are quite a few nicks and scratches to the enamel. With this many scratches out of the box, who knows how long it will be before it is rusted over.

The numbers on the uprights are pretty sloppy. My TDS decals were placed on so crooked I had to remove them. The unit wobbles and rocks on the floor. Definitely not commercial quality.

I did not have any luck getting replacement parts. I emailed NYBB with some pictures and than I called NYBB and spoke with them about my uprights and they said "ship it back, we will refund your money". I asked them if they would just ship out new uprights.. they said "nope... we can't inspect every package.. just sent it back, we will refund your money". I guess I'm out the $122 freight it cost to ship it to my house. Good companies will be glad to send out replacement parts for new items... not TDS!

The assembly directions are pretty bad as well. Part counts don't match what comes in the box. The directions are more of guides... you'll need to figure out how to put it together. If you are not mechanically inclined or have problems with IKEA directions than you won't be able to assemble this yourself.

As a side note, I also ordered a bench from them that came with a rusty foot rest tube. They do not sell used equipment.. this is how it came new!

If you live near their showroom and own a truck, you might have better luck with them. If you have problems, you can just take your equipment back. Otherwise, don't gamble on TDS equipment. The Powerline Power Rack is cheaper and will work just as well. Don't make my mistake of thinking this rack is of "high quality"!

5.0 out of 5 stars great beginners rack, August 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Power Rack (Misc.)
I really labored over the decision of buying this rack. I needed one and was not sure about whether or not to buy a more expensive one. I am a strength coach and needed something that could help me build my biz and not break the bank. I also wanted something that could hold up to the pounding that novice lifters would give it. It holds 450lbs really nicely. That's about all that I've put on it to date. I'm confident that it would hold another 100lbs or so pretty easy. It has a nice solid feel. It doesn't move when I do weighted pull-ups. For me, this is always a good test(I way 230lbs and attach 45lbs to my belt). If you think that you are going to put 600 lbs on your rack on a regular basis I would suggest upgrading to something a little more commercial. But if you need a solid, beginners cage, don't hesitate to buy this. You can't beat it for the money. And when you outgrow it, it will be a happy day when you upgrade to something better and sell it used for at least half of what you paid for it. It was delivered in only a couple days after purchase and I've used it everyday for two months and am very happy that I bought it.
One quick note: This cage is light and feels more solid when you put weight on the bottom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Rack!, September 14, 2009
This review is from: Power Rack (Misc.)
All jokes aside, this rack is a great value for money.

When assembled correctly there is almost no wobbling or creaking. The adjustability and number attachments available for this piece are fantastic.

Only con (if you want to call it that) is that the pull-up bar is pretty smooth, so when your hands get sweaty it becomes hard to use. (This is just physics though - the bar is metal) You can fix this with some $0.79 tennis grip tape. Just wrap the non-knurled parts of the bar and you've got yourself a perfect rack.

5.0 out of 5 stars TDS Power rack, January 30, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I got one of these a couple months ago and it works very well. For some it may seem a little light by itself, but I got additional plate holders direct from New York Barbell which fit on it perfectly. When they are loaded with plates this thing behaves like it was bolted to the floor. Using the power rack for plate storage saves alot of floor space too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practically commercial grade, November 23, 2011
This review is from: Power Rack (Misc.)
Just purchased the 2" hole version of this off of [...]. The quality is outstanding and this thing is sturdy. I have been weightlifting for more than 20 years now at various gyms and this rack is almost gym quality. It handles 225lbs without even flinching and I would be comfortable piling on 3 times that much without hesitation. Probably if you went with the 3" hole "titan" it would be equal to gym quality which most of us really don't need unless you are freakishly huge or running a small gym out of your house and need something that will withstand lots of wear and tear. The 2" has plenty of depth within the cage very similar if not the same as a gym rack.

Put this together easily with a wrench and socket set. Parts came incomplete and had to wait for the correct bolts etc. The customer service was average. Took a few days for a response but delivery was overnight by FedEx and very timely once the message was received. Also went with the lat attachment which is also of good quality. If I had the money would have liked to have the weight plates. The weight bar needs to be loaded evenly on both side for smooth operation, but I imagine all weight loaded machines are the same.

Painted numbers are faded out but really that isn't a dealbreaker for me. I would rather have a quality item than a lesser rack with pristine detailing.
