4.0 out of 5 stars Basic system does it all reasonably at a reasonable price

3.0 out of 5 stars Not good enough
I had a Sharp CMS-F800 for many years before this one. Since I'm bi-tonal, as it were,(records and tapes) I need these components, even in an age of CD's. I also have CD's now, so the added CD changer, while unnecessary, seemed like an asset. Amd yet, something registered that all this for this price, and in a handsome exterior, spelled trouble in terms of economizing...

Nice-looking all-in-one system with decent sound quality. This won't win any awards in Stereo Review, but respectible sound issues forth from compact but substantial speakers. There are some real magnets in there, a bit of heft to the speaker cabinets. The unit itself resembles a stack of components but it is an integrated tuner (digital tuner with presets), a double-cassette deck, a turntable, and a CD player with a 3-CD carousel. The included remote, like the unit itself, is functional, effective, and that's it -- it is not intuitively designed or especially user-friendly, but it works, can hold its own with more expensive systems in the looks department, and provides decent performance. You see where they cut corners -- the turntable has no automatic return of the tonearm, the tape decks have neither auto reverse nor Dolby, the CD player is a little clunky, but all in all, it does what it's supposed to do -- play music and look halfway decent doing it. Comes with a one-year warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY pleased!, September 7, 2005

This review is from: TEAC DC-D6300 3-CD Shelf System with Turntable (Electronics)
I received my system a few days after ordering it. It arrived in excellent condition, no scratches, cracks or anything negative about the condition. I am very pleased with the sound, the look and all the features that are a part of my system, but the best surprise of all is that it has a remote control, which I didn't know was a part of the system when I ordered it. The remote control does almost everything that can done from the unit itself. The system has a wonderful LED lighted display that shows the time when the unit is off and shows the station identification number when the unit is on. The sound quality is great, but the reason I purchased this particular system is that it has a turntable, which is very difficult to find. I had been searching for years for a unit that has a turntable attached to it and had separate speakers. This system does have these components, and with all the other features that are present just make it even greater! I couldn't be more pleased. Thank you!

I had a Sharp CMS-F800 for many years before this one. Since I'm bi-tonal, as it were,(records and tapes) I need these components, even in an age of CD's. I also have CD's now, so the added CD changer, while unnecessary, seemed like an asset. Amd yet, something registered that all this for this price, and in a handsome exterior, spelled trouble in terms of economizing somewhere. I would have preferred no CD-changer. For these are the negatives.

(1) no automatic return and shut-off on the turntable which I had on the Sharp.
(2) I don't like the volume control, preferring the digital one in the Sharp.
(3) There are periodic clicking sounds, very frequesnt at times, that sound like wires shorting and this because
(4) the system is always ON although STANDBY. I don't like the idea of any system always being on, and all my other items, word processor, computer, etc are all in surge protectors turned off until use for just this reason.
(5) And this is the big issue. The clackety drawer compartment for the tape player and recorder are irritating and seem on the verge of collapse unless you put your finger on the tape shield in which case the clackety sound stops. No big deal as far as recording goes, but it's annoying, and gives a tawdry aspect to an otherwise smart-looking system.
(6) Biggest neagtive of all! Within a little more than a year of ownership, probably within months, in terms of actual use, the recording tape tangles and just when you think your 45 minutes has earned you a finished tape you realize the tape had jammed at the very beginning of the recording, hence your efforts are futile. Thus, the tape recorder is in effect useless.

As usual with products purchased today, no one owns up to the merchandise, there's no compunction to answer customer complaints, and warranties last no longer than a year at best, which means in terms of actual use it's potluck. My Airtemp air conditioner lasted more than 26 years of continued summer use. My Sharp more than 15 years of perfect use until the playback tape began to sound wobbly. This one's tape is rackety and gets tangled in recording within a year!!

Frank

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Garbage, November 14, 2006
This review is from: TEAC DC-D6300 3-CD Shelf System with Turntable (Electronics)
I bought this stereo online a few months ago, and right from the time that I took it out of the box, it has just been one problem after another. For starters, when playing a CD, there is a weird hiss that comes from the speakers, which gets louder and louder as the CD progresses. By the end of any CD, the sound is just as loud as the music itself. I brought the stereo to a repairman, and they said they had never heard of such a problem before, and were astounded.

The second problem is that the Record Player spins too fast. Instead of 33 1/3 RPMS, I guess it to be somewhere around 36 RPMS. You wouldn't really notice it unless you're playing something you're really familiar with. Only then, do you realize how much faster the song is, and as a result, how much higher pitched it is. This is VERY annoying.

Lastly, the cassette player makes a noise, like it's having trouble spinning the tape around.

I was expecting great things from this stereo. Needless to say, I was totally disappointed when I got it. This thing does have good sound, but what's the point when you can't play anything from it?

A note to any Canadians planning on buying this stereo, or anything from Teac: DON'T, unless you buy it in Canada. The warranty is only good for the country in which the stereo was purchased.

4.0 out of 5 stars I am so happy I bought this!, August 22, 2006

I wanted something that played everything (all records, tapes, cd's and radio) and now I have it. The ability to put my records on tape is a great plus. The sound is much better than the vintage-looking brands and it still doesn't take up too much space. Note - a prior reviewer said the volume knob doesn't work, but it does. To increase/decrease the volume you have to repeatedly turn the knob in the direction appropriate. This way it doesn't blast and you can make subtle adjustments in volume. My only criticisms are inadequate explanations of how it works (as the volume issue indicates) and difficulty seeing the details of the different functions with old eyesight like mine.

Its your basic all in one stereo system. It has a backlight display wether on or standby.

The turntable uses a replaceable ceramic stylus the STL-103. This should be replaced every 50 hours according to the manual. Or you can go to Lpgear dot com website and get their version of the STL-103 stylus which has a polished diamond tip which last 600 to 1,000 hours and costs about $17.

Now it does have an AUX input, so you can add something else if you want. Maybe even another turntable since this one spins a little fast.
The turntable also feels a little cheap but for a $150 compact all in one system what else would you expect? Seems pretty basic, as another reviewer said..it does what its supposed to do.

4.0 out of 5 stars All around Good for the money, November 6, 2006
This review is from: TEAC DC-D6300 3-CD Shelf System with Turntable (Electronics)
Decent sound overall. Solid unit with Heavy wood case speakers.Nice style, gives look of stacked components.Dubbed well LP to tape and tape to tape. CD player works well. Record player reproduces good sound for a compact system. Missing some extra features that would have been nice such as no volume meter, no auto return on the turntable but for the money can't complain.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke out of the box!, December 26, 2009
This review is from: TEAC DC-D6300 3-CD Shelf System with Turntable (Electronics)
I bought this to transfer my LP'S to to MP3's and when I unpacked the unit, one of the hinges to the cover was broke! Now, a year or so later the remote control gives out! I don't have a problem with the hiss on CD playback, but this is a CHEAP piece of equipment, although I paid over $200 for it!! What a sucker me and other were for purchasing this Mattel quality stereo!

This review is from: TEAC DC-D6300 3-CD Shelf System with Turntable (Electronics)
I bought this for my mom and it worked well till just after the 1 year warranty was up. Then nothing. The repairs to the system will cost more than I paid for it. What a disappointment.

My elderly aunt needed a turntable with a CD and Tape player. This fit the bill. I was surprised after setting it up for her (VERY EASY) how well it sounded. I expected less and got a lot more bang for the buck.
