5.0 out of 5 stars Don't blame the product for your mistakes!
I have experience with many various DVD players. I used to own and manage an Audio/Video retail store. All the previous reviewers problem was menu settings. As far is this player, It plays DVD Audio and DVD-Rs as well as all the usual stuff. The build is on par with the $600.00 and up range. There's hardly any plastic on this piece. The front panel is 11mm thick brushed...

1.0 out of 5 stars DVD player that doesn't work with TV's
I bought this item from alectrics (evidently another name for Dakmart, who shipped the item) through Amazon. Upon hooking it up to my TV I was able to get a good image and soundtrack, but no dialogue! After lots of trouble shooting (to no avail)I called TEAC's customer "service". After waiting over 45 minutes to talk to someone I was told that I could only get dialogue by...

This review is from: TEAC DV10D Audio and Video DVD Player (Electronics)
I have experience with many various DVD players. I used to own and manage an Audio/Video retail store. All the previous reviewers problem was menu settings. As far is this player, It plays DVD Audio and DVD-Rs as well as all the usual stuff. The build is on par with the $600.00 and up range. There's hardly any plastic on this piece. The front panel is 11mm thick brushed aluminum! It has built in Dolby Digital decoders with 5.1 channel outputs. All of the outputs are gold plated! The top is even ventillated. As far as the audio and video quality, it's excellent. I've purchased over a dozen of these for friends and family and there have been no problems. I originally bought one for the bedroom, but ended up replacing a Marantz and a Denon with two more of these! Thats a total of 3 in my house alone. As for as TEAC's customer service, ALL large companies have awful customer service! That's why I buy reliable products (like TEAC) so there's less chance I'll have to deal with customer service. (unlike SONY, Pioneer, etc.)

1.0 out of 5 stars DVD player that doesn't work with TV's, July 27, 2006
This review is from: TEAC DV10D Audio and Video DVD Player (Electronics)
I bought this item from alectrics (evidently another name for Dakmart, who shipped the item) through Amazon. Upon hooking it up to my TV I was able to get a good image and soundtrack, but no dialogue! After lots of trouble shooting (to no avail)I called TEAC's customer "service". After waiting over 45 minutes to talk to someone I was told that I could only get dialogue by hooking it up to a 5 channel surround system, and that the problem is with the way that new DVD's are made, not with the product design or flaws. This is crazy and ridiculous; in fact I was able to play the same DVD's that wouldn't work on the TEAC on both my computer and an older cheapo DVD player. Also, by playing with the audio controls I was eventually able to get dialogue, but not in a way that was predictible or repeatable with the same settings. To top it off, the "service" person not only gave me absurd and false information, but was also condescending to a point approaching rudeness. I can't say how this machine does in other set-ups, but selling a DVD player that doesn't work with TV's seems similar to selling a blender that works fine as long as you don't put food in it. Given this machines inherent flaws, and TEAC's horrible customer service I would not recommend this machine, nor will I be buying TEAC products at any time in the future.
