After having found the cool side, I marked it with a sharpie. The defective moisture damaged device in the B&D refrigerator was removed and all of the old heatsink compound was scrapped off of the heatsinks. The new peltier device was mounted with the cool side towards its cool side heatsink and the same was done for the hot side (larger) heatsink using a modest amount of Arctic 5 Silver heatsink compound. The leads were connected up by color to the power supply, red to positive (+) and black to negative (i.e. common, "-" or ground) using butt splices. The B&D refrigerator was plugged in and allowed to run with the thermostat set to the coldest setting. The first couple of days, the temperature was 47 degrees. However, after the break in period of the Arctic 5 Silver compound, the refrigerator runs at 42 degrees at a control setting just above the lowest cooling setting (i.e. at nearly the warmest setting or the lowest power usage setting). Efficiency, and the temperatures, would be improved, if I had replaced the other device, which will soon be done.
Please note that if you plan on replacing a peltier in an existing device you will need some thermal paste to ensure a solid thermal connection is made between the peltier and the heat sinks. All you need is a small amount spread thinly and evenly across the surface, an old credit card works well.
Without thermal paste my cooler was only able to get down to 65 degrees (room temp 78), but once I applied the paste the cooler is now able to maintain a steady 54 degrees.
Bought this part to replace the one in the fridge. Used a AA battery to test which side got hot and which side got cold.
Installed it in the fridge, plugged everything up and turned it on. Product worked as expected and the wine is now chilled.
UPDATE - Updated from 1 star. 1st unit was defective. New unit sent promptly (<2 weeks from China). Is doing what it's supposed to do, but quite a bit less powerful than the original rated at the same wattage.

Straight forward Peltier chip in an plastic envelope. It works just fine. I tested it with a single 1.5 v battery and could feel heating and cooling. Read morePublished 27 days ago by JR Chem
Impressive. You really need to draw the heat away from the hot side for it to be effective. I built an aquarium cooler with it and it's pretty neat. Read morePublished 1 month ago by McKinneyTexas

Bought this to use as a replacement for my wine chiller but it seems to only get it down to 66 F which is slightly lower than the temperature of the room it is in.Published 1 month ago by Amx
