This replacement arrived with no damage to the ceramic exterior of the device. The edges along the square perimeter were properly sealed to prevent moisture from shortening the life of the device. Since the 12vdc device had no markings on either side as to which side is the cold or hot side, I had to hook the peltier device up to a 5vdc power supply. The red lead was connected to +5vdc and the black lead was connected to common / ground. Power was applied for only 3 seconds and quickly shut off. That short time was enough to sense with my fingers which side is the cool side and which side was the hot and side and without damaging the device from heat. Do not run this device with a power supply more than a few seconds without a heatsink mounted to the device! You will destroy the device, if you do.

After having found the cool side, I marked it with a sharpie. The defective moisture damaged device in the B&D refrigerator was removed and all of the old heatsink compound was scrapped off of the heatsinks. The new peltier device was mounted with the cool side towards its cool side heatsink and the same was done for the hot side (larger) heatsink using a modest amount of Arctic 5 Silver heatsink compound. The leads were connected up by color to the power supply, red to positive (+) and black to negative (i.e. common, "-" or ground) using butt splices. The B&D refrigerator was plugged in and allowed to run with the thermostat set to the coldest setting. The first couple of days, the temperature was 47 degrees. However, after the break in period of the Arctic 5 Silver compound, the refrigerator runs at 42 degrees at a control setting just above the lowest cooling setting (i.e. at nearly the warmest setting or the lowest power usage setting). Efficiency, and the temperatures, would be improved, if I had replaced the other device, which will soon be done.

This was a perfect replacement for a failed peltier in my wine cooler. I can't believe I'd left the cooler broken for almost 2yrs before I realized that a replacement cooler was only a few dollars.

Please note that if you plan on replacing a peltier in an existing device you will need some thermal paste to ensure a solid thermal connection is made between the peltier and the heat sinks. All you need is a small amount spread thinly and evenly across the surface, an old credit card works well.

Without thermal paste my cooler was only able to get down to 65 degrees (room temp 78), but once I applied the paste the cooler is now able to maintain a steady 54 degrees.

I got these and within 3 hours had them running with old pc heatsinks and fans. I got one down to 46* on 7.2v and to 37* on 12.5v within 5min! Awesome deal I will be buying more for my other projects!

Received a Cuisinart CWC-1200 wine fridge from a relative because it stopped working.

Bought this part to replace the one in the fridge. Used a AA battery to test which side got hot and which side got cold.

Installed it in the fridge, plugged everything up and turned it on. Product worked as expected and the wine is now chilled.

These things are fun. I ordered two. I mounted the cold side to a large plate heat sink and the hot side is cooled by an OE AMD CPU cooler with a copper base and heat pipes. It froze the cold side solid over night!

I have a mini-cooler (holds a 6 pack of cans) that had all the gaskets and everything for a module of this size in it, but it had a tiny little 30 watt stuck in the middle. It didn't do too well. With this one installed things may not be ice cold, but it keeps everything chilly enough that it's finally usable.

For wine cooler. One side warms slightly, other does nothing. I'm out $9 for a tube of heat sink compound. Willing to take a replacement.

UPDATE - Updated from 1 star. 1st unit was defective. New unit sent promptly (<2 weeks from China). Is doing what it's supposed to do, but quite a bit less powerful than the original rated at the same wattage.

was able to replace the cooler in a 2 year old prematurely failed Koolatron P27 Grey Voyager Cooler with a bit of thermal grease and #1 square head screw driver. it actually draws closer to 65w according to my KilloWatt and product spec sheets, so I don't know why Amazon has it listed at 92w. oddly the model number printed side was cool instead of hot so it was probably some Chinese clone, but whatever... it worked. the ceramic seems kind of brittle or the plastic bag pack is inadequate packaging as mine came a bit chipped, but I used it anyway. I know these are cheaper to get from China mailed directly, but I figured it's worth a few bucks to get it in days and have Amazon's return policy to back you up. BTW those koolatron's are amazon star overrated crap - you are far better off with any extreme rubbermaid cooler and a bag of ice on your summer day trip.
