Michican Industrial 3/8" & 1/4" Torque Wrenches,
By
This review is from: TEKTON 2455 3/8-Inch Drive Click Torque Wrench (Tools & Home Improvement)
I'm a vintage race car restorer and former professional racer. These Michigan Industrial torque wrenches are robust, and appropriate for the hobbyist and semi-pro mechanic. They calibrate close to their vernier settings when cross-checked against other popular brand torque wrenches. All torque wrenches function within 5% of scale, and these were within that tolerance. Obviously made in China or somewhere in the East, they read in in/lbs and Kgms/m which is the only critizism I would offer. It would be more useful if instead of Kgm/m they would scale in N/m which is more universally found in current shop repair manuals. They have a handy hook on the end to hang on a pegboard or come with a plastic case to keep them from banging-around in the drawer. All considered I'm satisfied with these tools.

I read reviews of people complaing about how hard the dial is to read, nonsense, I am half blind and read it with no problem, need one? This is a great tool.

Good wrench, bad lower end torque,

I bought this wrench with the intent of using it to torque my carbon fiber racing bicycle. While it does just barely make it to the torque specs I need, it does not go any lower than this so I can't torque my bike to a slightly lower tension than the max allowed.

Extresmly dificult to see the markings for torque settings.
Chrome on chorme makes it imposible to read. I had to use a marker to hightlight the numbers and then wipe the excess ink off the shaft with a rag before I could read. Good for the money and ocational use.

Delivered in a timely manner and as advertised. Great tool for it's job. Has only inch pounds on the adjustment scale so a little math is required to set the torque when listed in ft lb. But the tool does the job.

The advertised discription, although very, very limited in the details category sounded good enough to justify the purchase. After receiving the wrench and looking at it closely I became aware for the first time that the working range of this wrench starts around 280 inch pounds and tops out at 950 inch pounds or thereabouts. In this upper inch pound range it is just as easy to use a foot pound wrench of which I already have two. I thought I was buying a torque wrench capable of lower numbers commonly found on motorcycle torque values. The omission of info for the torque range should have raised a red flag for me but I missed the "hideing something" tell-tell signs on this one. The only good thing is, I did not invest much money and it will be about as cheap to throw this brand new, never used wrench in the trash can as pay the shipping charges that will be stacking up.

I originally ordered this torque wrench and received an empty envelope. I reordered it as I needed the tool asap. After I contacted Ucostore they stated they have resent the first order. So I ended up with two wrenches that should be identical... They arent the same brand. the second wrench I ordered came as it should, in a box with a plastic storage container and included everything. The resent first order showed up in another ENVELOPE and it isnt even the wrench I ordered to begin with. It wasnt even the same brand! It came in a wrapper rather than the plastic case it should have nor did it have the adapter or the bottom ring for that matter. BOOO! Very Displeased.

Engraving is VERY hard to read and set. Most likely it works fine as described by the other reviewer.
My advice -- spend the extra bucks and get an SK torque wrench on Amazon. Inexpensive -- so I felt no pain in pitching it out, I have never seen a tool that looked so primitive! By the by -- no reflection on the seller, who shipped instantly, and the seller packed the item very carefully. |
