5.0 out of 5 stars Finally - The right tool for the right job
I just replaced the O2 sensor in my 2000 Hyundai Accent - there is no way I could have done it without this. Even after soaking it in penetrating oil, heat cycling it, etc - I still had to use this on the end of an impact gun. It got it out quick - but word to the wise - I had to use a thread chaser to clean up the threads due to the amount of force it took. This...

I purchased this socket to replace the #2 sensor (downstream - the one that's past the catalytic converter) in a 2002 Subaru Forester.

As it turned out, I didn't need it at all for the downstream sensor, as I could reach it with an open end 22mm or 7/8" wrench. It's a good thing, because this socket would not fit over the existing sensor. It wasn't anything to...

This little socket is INVALUABLE for changing your older O2 Sensor.

Very useful tool for replacing oxygen sensors on Toyota 2001 camry. I got the code of P1135 and checked online, to fix the issue. Amazon is great source. I fixed the issue in 5 min. with this tool.

It wasn't anything to do with the wires or the slot that prevented me from using it, it was the sensor itself. The lugs cut into the socket don't go all the way to the bottom, they're cut into less than the top inch or so of the socket. Past that, the socket is round inside, and there's just too much material left in there to get around my old sensor. It did fit the replacement sensor I bought (Bosch Universal), but when I buy a tool with a specific purpose, I want it to do everything it's supposed to do, regardless.

This was supposed to fit around any sensor that was of the size of this socket, and it simply didn't.

Five stars for being an O2 sensor socket, seemingly rugged enough for the job.

One star for not being properly designed to actually use on any make of sensor that's the size this socket is supposed to handle.

Three stars average.

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't fit over the O2 Sensor wiring..., October 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: TEKTON 4929 3/8-Inch Drive by 7/8-Inch Oxygen Sensor Socket (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought it because it was specifically said it was drop forged rather than cast, a lot of these break during use.

Unfortunately, it didn't fit over the wiring, not even with electrical tape to cushion the wiring and try and jam it in there. Luckily, or unluckily... however you wish to view it: I discovered I didn't have a bad oxygen sensor. When I removed the heat shield on the exhaust manifold to do it manually I discovered a circumferential crack in the manifold! Which was why my engine was throwing a flag. $100 fix versus $500 fix, but at least the sensor was good.

** I have a '99 Honda Civic LX

This socket functioned as you would expect, I had no problems fitting a Bosch 4-wire bundle into the slot. If you want to use a wrench instead of a ratchet for this socket you need a 1" wrench not a 7/8" wrench. Probably a dumb newbie mistake on my part but I lay it out there for others to learn from.

I see other people had a problem with this product. I did not, just to be
sure I placed the O2 sensor in the socket to make it did work, yes it would
be nice if the socket was longer but I did not have a problem. As for the
slot in the side of the socket, I had no problem with it. I can see if
you have a four wire O2 it would be a problem.

Sprayed a boat load of chemicals to loosen up the old oxygen sensor. Still took a bit of force to get out but without this socket... it would have been a feeble attempt. Thank you for a quality product Amazon!

I am glad that I found out I needed one of these sockets before jacking up my car and attempting to replace my oxygen sensor. I had thought an open-end wrench would probably work, but the placement of the sensor on the exhaust would have made it difficult or impossible. In my case, I still saved $200+ by doing the job myself, and this socket worked perfectly.

I wish the notch for the wires was a little larger, but they barely fit regardless. Socket works great. 4 stars for wire fitment.
