Top Customer Reviews
- Non-slip texture makes it easy to hold onto
- LED light makes it really easy to use in the dark
- Easily forms a seal with the valve stem to get an accurate read on the first try (this was my main gripe with other gauges I've used)
- Awesome price!
I'm not sure what else one would need from a tire gauge, so this one gets an A+.
**UPDATE** As of 6/18/2013, this thing is still working perfectly, even though I've dropped it a dozen times. Also still using the original battery. Others I've used seem to drain the battery, regardless of how often I use it. I'd mention the battery manufacturer, but I'd hate to be accused of working for Duracell--OOPS!
**2nd UPDATE** As of 8/7/2014 it still works great, and, no joke, STILL using the original battery.
The brakes and rotors and mounts are always in the way which makes it very hard to get a good seal.
The absolute BEST part about this device is how easy and solid the seal is. It makes a perfect seal and registers a pressure instantly.
Word of warning: pay close attention to what MODE this guy is in when reading pressure. It caught me off guard twice already by changing modes on me.
Modes change by holding down the button. So be careful and pay attention to the pressure mode indicated in the display next to the pressure readout.
The illumination is great and you can read the display even with polarized sunglasses on (unlike my iPhone). Even the tip is illuminated if it's dark out.
Highly recommend this product. I use it EVERY WEEK.
As for the tool it self...All I can is this is AMAZING quality for the price!!!
This is a MUST HAVE for those of you who want a digital tire gauge with a light too for night time.
This device is very light and has good grooves to grip it.
The product also easily forms a seal with the valve stem giving quick and accurate readings.
Compared to my other two tire gauges this was on par with the readings.
This will defiantly become my main tire gauge and will be purchasing more for my family to use!
Please consider buying this one before going with the more expensive one, do not waste your money. They probably do not even come with a light!
Overall if I could give a 4.9/5 then I would but I can't so a 5 will do :)
Will be updating in a few months!
I checked both in my car and it showed exact readings.
However, one came without the lights turning on.
I called the customer care support guys and immediately they offered to replace the defective one.
It took a while and I didn't hear from them. Again I sent an email and they responded with an apology
that it was out of stock. Within few days I got the replacement.
I understand the delay was reasonable and I am okay with that.
Good quality customer service. I recommend this product.
- I think mine is pretty accurate. I've compared it to 3 other gauges and it's within 2 PSI of them. It's also pretty consistent with readings, which is a good thing.
- There is only one button, which makes it easy to use with gloves on. This is very nice in the wintertime!
- The little light throws just enough illumination to find the valve stem in the dark, which is nice.
- It can measure in PSI, KPa, Bar, and Kgf/cm2. Which must be nice if you're .... Swedish?
- It's not the easiest to seal onto the valve stem to get a good reading. You sort of have to press and wiggle.
- Batteries are difficult or impossible to replace. There is no little battery door - you'll have to take the thing apart to see about new batteries.
- My clumsy hands frequently bump the button. This changes the unit of measurement to KPa, which I don't know how to read.
I like this thing, and I'm sure it'll give me years of usage, as long as I can figure out how to take the thing apart and change the batteries. It would be a five star product if changing the batteries was easier.
12/2014: I have just learned that it is possible to replace the batteries in this thing. You'll have to take out two screws in the back and pull the plastic shell apart. It takes a CR2032 button cell battery. Not exactly easy, but at least you can change the battery if you need to. Mine is still going strong on the original battery after more than a year.
Just for reference, this uses the CR 2032 batteries which can be purchased for about $1.50 at Fry's electronics or even Wal-Mart.
Testing the unit I was pleased with the small light on the front, as I could locate the tire stem pretty easily in the dark. Don't get me wrong, it's not a flashlight but a pen type light. The unit was a bit fickle as I tried to test the tire pressure and it had a hard time getting a good seal which lead to minor air leaking. When I moved the unit a bit it would seal up and take the pressure. I tested it against an old handheld Slime model and the TEKTON was 10 PSI higher or my Slime was 10 psi lower. I'll take it to the tire shop to get an accurate reading on both and report below.
The unit itself is nice, the backlit display makes for easier reading. The battery was easy to replace but the angle of the TEKTON is a bit off, it is Left angled so depending on where your tire stem is, it can be a bit difficult to attach.
Please note, this is for right handed people as the unit's display is turned backward if trying to use left handed or when the tire stem is to the far facing right it will be upside down or you have to stand and rotate to line it up.
I am sad to report that I took my car to the tire shop and they confirmed that the TEKTON was not accurate, as it was off by a whopping 4 PSI for one and 4.5 PSI for the other. My old slime model was off too, leaving me without an accurate tire gauge.
I'll have to return these for a refund, luckily I'm within the 30 day cutoff for Amazon returns.
I can't and don't recommend this product.
