I dropped a valve keeper while doing head work on a MINI Cooper. I didn't see where it went, I just heard a *ping* as it hit the spark plug tube. If it fell inside, it would be in the combustion chamber and would destroy the engine. If it bounced off the outside, it could still be somewhere that would cause a lot of trouble. It had to be found. I spent over 2 hours searching with a flash light before ordering this magnet. When it arrived, I opened the packaging and fed the magnet carefully through the spark plug hole. The keeper was found in about 30 seconds sitting on top of the piston. Had I not recovered it, it would have destroyed the engine.

Put one of these in your tool kit today.

Not much to say about it, I had a similar tool for many years -- not sure if it was the same brand -- but it got "lost" in the garage. When I looked for a replacement on Amazon.com, this one looked just like my original so I bought it.

It's good quality, it has a solid feel when it expands and a very strong magnet.

Don't get fooled by the "bigger is better" when it comes to these telescoping magnet tools -- think about it, if you lose a tiny screw somewhere you can't reach, obviously you want an equally tiny telescoping magnet tool to reach in there. You don't need a 25 lb. magnet tip that's an inch across...

This one is solid, it has everything you need and it fits nicely in the pocket (keep it away from your watch or credit cards!) or the toolbox. It's much better quality than any of the junk I found in the local hardware store. It actually feels like a quality machinist's tool.

I've been a shade tree mechanic for nearly 50 years and I've gone through several of these tools. This one is a very good value for what it is, so no worries about buying one.

A telescoping magnet is a lifesaver product under the hood; a must-have for every tool box... But look for another one. Although the magnet itself is very strong – it easily picks up a claw hammer – the telescoping part is quite weak and broke on my first use. The rod is very prone to flexing and ultimately bending to the point of a kink. This means one must retrieve heavier items at an angle parallel to the rod, and never at a right angle to it, which can be tough based on the situation. Further, the furthest section of the rod pulled out of its next larger section on the first use. I didn't even pull it that hard, but nevertheless, it came right out. I simply super glued it in place, but now it's one section shorter than designed.

Hi, Michael. My name is Brennen. I am a TEKTON Customer Support Representative. I am sorry that pick-up tool broke. We would be happy to send you a replacement. I'd also recommend checking out the TEKTON 7605 8-lb. Telescoping Magnetic Pickup Tool. Sturdy telescoping rod that fits in your pocket. Very helpful for grabbing fish tape in a wall or for picking up screws in a hard to reach spot. My only complaint is it's made in Taiwan, but it so much better than the made in china ones that I kept breaking.

This is a must have tool if you deal with small metal objects that may fall into cracks that you can't retrieve using your hands or even another tool or object. I use it primarily for automotive work, ie retrieving spark plugs and small screws.

Nothing about this item is wrong. Does what it was designed to do. Magnet is reasonably/sufficiently strong to pick up stuff it is supposed to pick up. Might be trouble for credit cards and things magnetic fields interfere with or destroy. Operator should understand that potential.

This is one of the best things I have gotten for myself. I am an invalid and it sure helps pick up a lot of things that I drop.

Incredibly useful tool at an amazing price. The quality of the construction is very good. This is the perfect size - any larger and it may not fit in those tiny places.
