It holds it's position well and extends very well but not as far as the magnet itself.
Codi L Brooks
It's probably worth the 7 bucks but the mirror is definitely not the quality of a dentist's mirror.
Ed
The mirror helped when I had to line things up and the magnet helped when I dropped the bolts.

Just like my rating, these units are "just OK". Cutting quickly to the complaints they are;

1. The mirror is made of some sort of glass that is difficult to clean.
2. The ring holding the mirror to the mirror holder is not perfectly circular and looks like it was placed by a kid with a hammer and a little screwdriver. It's got little wrinkles on about 20% of the mirror ring-holder.

What I like about it.

1. The handles are sturdy.
2. The Telescoping rod works well.
3. The articulating holder on the mirror works well and stays up.

No Complaints about the Magnetic Retrieval device.

It's probably worth the 7 bucks but the mirror is definitely not the quality of a dentist's mirror. It would probably work well in the engine compartment of a car but I'm trying to use it inside communications radios which I think is a darker and smaller environment. I think I"ll put it with my automotive tools.

UPDATE - Dec 31, 2013: After using this mirror a bit I've actually grown rather fond of it. It's great for wiring up the back of desktop computers. The big mirror makes location of the connectors easy, the ball joint thingy that allows setting the mirror at a good angle works well and the handle feels accurate. I didn't think I'd ever like this tool, but I do. I'm upping my rating to 4 stars.

Use these constantly in working on desktop printers. Impossible to find the little bits of paper and miscellany that gets find its way into the paper path and nooks and crannies without them. The pick-up tool has been a life-saver on many, many occasions. Not extra heavy-weight; just the usual "made in China" grade stuff, but invaluable.

These tools are nowhere near as solid or durable as a really good inspection mirror or pick-up tool, but they've worked for a few weeks now, and they look fine. I'll review each tool on its own, and the set together:

The Mirror / Inspection Tool:

The mirror is not made with very high quality glass; the lack of weight and the dull shine betrays it. However, having a 2" mirror instead of the more standard 1" size means you can see a bit more around dark corners or in places you can't (or would rather not) stick your head. Just expect to have to clean the thing every time you use it--the glass smears very easily.

The mirror extends about 1.5x the normal length of the tool, but I'm going to leave it unextended, since it seems the telescoping rod is not very sturdy. There's a lot of noise when you extend and retract the mirror. Also, the swiveling head needs to be very tight to hold the mirror, but is so tight that the tool requires two hands to swivel the mirror exactly as you'd like it.

It's not a bad tool, it's just nowhere near as nice as a good, all-metal dental inspection mirror or its equivalent.

The Magnetic Pick-up Tool:

These are incredibly handy to have around for those tiny screws you drop behind a cabinet, or in your car's hood compartment. Many times, there's no other way to grab a little screw than one of these tools.

This one is quite simple; it extends out about twice it's normal length, and has a large magnet on the end. Like the mirror tool, it's not the highest quality, and I expect it will break within a few years. But for the price, it's okay.

I have a nicer magnet tool I bought a few years back, and the magnet is smaller *and* more powerful than the magnet on this one.

If you do much work on your car then these are must have items. One day you are certain to drop a part down into the darkness below your engine. Armed with both you might actually find the missing tiny little part you have no idea where to get another one of. Mirror also will is a must have on import or small engines when trying to find some hidden sensor or whatever. These are well made and work great. Really like the double swivel on the mirror head.
Update 8/16/2013
Ok a mirror and a magnet are must haves but I am not so sure these are the ones anymore. After only 2 uses the magnet came out of the end of the extension. Still can't find the magnet. Looking at what I had left I could tell the magnet had been glued in and the glue failed. Well of course the glue failed terrible design.

the mirror is fine but you can set a square mirror down in a tight place and have it stay in one place. its handy if all you can see is through the mirror and you need more than one hand. the magnet broke while i was pushing it in, it is made of very thin metal

I have been rebuilding my tool collection as of late. I have always been a Craftsman guy, I grew up with that Made in USA brand. But after about 5 years since my last trip, image my surprise to see Made in China on half there items. I was ready to cry, cursing Wally World the whole time. Well for Christmas I received a $100 gift card for my favorite store, Amazon, I started researching some other tool brands. I came across Tekton and decided on the good reviews, and no long caring about China made (since everything is now), I loaded up my cart with about $150 worth of Tekton tools. A dead blow hammer, chisel set, file set, oil filter wrench, snap ring pliers, digital tire guage, pick set and a few others. The same tools with my favorite brand would have cost maybe a third or so more. I must say, for what they are the quality is amazing and every bit as good as Stanley made or Craftsman's non-professional line (tools in the store). So in conclusion, whenever I need a critical specialty tool I will look to Tekton made tools; they are probably the best for the price you can find...

Sharing this on all the Tekton products I purchased.
