Book Description

In a mountain cave in the midst of a fierce Afghan winter, an American Special Forces team discovers an ancient talisman. Recovery of the mysterious stone triggers events that hurl ex-Army Ranger Rick Lowell and archaeologist Beth Harper into a fight for survival against the Brotherhood, a sinister cabal with distant ties to the stone. Lowell and Harper quickly find themselves embroiled in a perilous plot that takes them from the sun-baked desert cities of Arizona to long forgotten treasure chambers concealed beneath the ancient ruins of Persepolis, Iran. As deadly events culminate and the mystery surrounding the talisman deepens, it becomes clear the stone harbors a secret more ominous than anyone could have imagined....

5.0 out of 5 stars Like riding a roller coaster. October 17, 2010

This is a page-turner right from the start and it doesn't let up. The dialogue is snappy and it almost seems like you're watching a movie as you tear through the story.

I'll try not to spoil any of the really good parts but here's a quick overview: A talisman is found in modern-day Afghanistan by a group of special forces and it makes its way back to the US where rich and powerful evil forces want to use it for their nefarious schemes. Of course, the good guys move to stop them and, along the way, get beaten, dropped, shot at, blown up, sliced, and more. With a final showdown in a suitably ancient ruin setting, our heroes have to pull out all the stops to survive.

I really enjoyed many of the scenes; they take place in interesting locations with interesting characters and lots of explosive action. Mr. Keene does a great job of keeping you on the edge of your seat (reminiscent of the Indiana Jones movies.) Also, the explanation of the talisman itself is very cleverly done...I would have never guessed it and I'm an avid reader of these types of books. The characters are well-rounded and they even show growth over the course of the story, which doesn't usually happen in the thriller genre.

All-in-all, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys a rip-roaring good read. I couldn't put it down and finished it in two sittings.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth reading December 13, 2013

A fun, educational and edge of seat read with well developed characters that you will care about. The description of the book sounded interesting and it was. I certainly recommend this to anyone that likes ancient history and adventure in the style of an Indian Jones movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars TELESMA November 21, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Excellent. What more can I say about a book that not only delivers what can only be described as an onslaught of fighting, archeological descriptions of history but there is comedic relief, and of course the damsel in distress who can definitely take care of herself.

Dalton Keene hasn't been writing for years? Really? I found this to be one of the better written books I've read over the past couple of years. If you liked 'Inferno" then you should find this book a fun, exciting read.

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting ancient history mystery February 5, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed the characters and the story. This one has some romance, action, ritualistic sacrifices, good guys, bad guys, bad guys who turn into good guys, and an ancient mystery enveloping it all. This story did include a few too many references to how if the two main lovers had done this or that differently then the relationship would have been soooo much better. This was well enough covered the first few times it was mentioned in my opinion. Regardless, it was a fun read overall. Check it out!
