CAOakley Book Reviews

"The only reason I put this book down last night was because my eyes were completely dried out and could not stay open for a second longer. I started reading again the second I woke up this morning, and I didn’t stop until I read the last page. Needless to say, it’s addicting!"
Reading, Eating & Dreaming I was Blair Waldorf

"This book is definitely going on my top shelf! - I can’t put my finger on what exactly moved me most…the characters who were wonderful and vivid, the love story that was a delicious slow burn - it was all of these things that touched me and I can’t wait for the next book!!"
Ana - The Book Hookup

"The romance is sweet, it’s intense, it’s a slow burn, it’s AMAZING. I fell in love and I cried….I need more!"

According to Albert Einstein, the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion. He might have been right.

Seventeen-year-old Jessie McLeod is used to getting glimpses of the past when she touches objects in her dads antique shop, but she's not used to the past looking back. Especially when the past is a gorgeous guy and she is dressed like a slob.

Shocked and intrigued, Jessie becomes obsessed with trying to catch another glimpse of that perfect face. When thoughts of him invade her sleep, the dreams seem so real that she wakes with the feel of his lips lingering on her skin. Soon after, however, the one guy she thought she’d never date suddenly asks her out. Either something strange is going on, or all those years of using furniture cleaner finally caused brain damage.

Brain damage is easy enough to believe—until the day she turns around and looks straight into the face from her dreams. Completely unaware, Jessie is now in a race against time to remember something important, something life-changing, and the one person who can tell her the truth doesn’t dare to—she must remember on her own.

With only a week before senior year, the once self-assured Jessie is now sure of nothing. Well, maybe one thing. Everything’s been turned upside down, and it's all because of that stupid mirror she found in the shop on Monday and the glimpse that changed her future—maybe even her past.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for the next one! May 20, 2011

Okay, first, this is not a short book you can just read in one night, it's more like the length of the Twilight books.

There are a lot of secrets and surprises in this book, so I cant be too detailed, or Ill ruin the best parts. One of my favorite things is it started off pretty fast with Jessies special ability and a big surprise. It also starts quick with some romantic tension that builds through the whole book. Theres some serious sexual tension on the pg13 level through parts of the last half of the book.

Ill warn you that something happens somewhere in the middle and you'll think they made a mistake for a page or two. When you realize it's supposed to be that way, its awesome. Theres not a lot of stuff I can say, because there is so much you have to figure out, and thats part of the fun of the book. The first part of the book, the reader knows everything Jessie knows, but for the whole second half, you know something she doesnt, and you really want to tell her!

It almost has a love triangle, it appears at first, which is not my favorite thing, but I liked this because you really fall in love with her two love interests. But I can't say why I REALLY liked it or it'll give it away. I'd be glad to take either one!

By the time you get to the end, you're invested in everyones feelings, even her Dad, who is a hoarder and drives a horrible car. You'll learn the truth, which when you learn it you'll think "OMG, that should have been so obvious!" But then in the last chapter, theres something you never see coming. All I can say is it had probably the best ending ever, ever, ever!

What I loved;

Great characters.
I really liked Jessie a lot. She seems like someone you could be friends with, is sometimes really funny, but also has a temper, which can also be funny. (Just remember the word "zap" when you read it.)I also liked Julie, her best friend. She wasn't in the book a lot, but she was like always there when Jessie needed her. I FELL IN LOVE with her two love interests. Like I said, you get invested in them, and you want them all to be happy.

Great writing.
You never know what youre going to get sometimes. I like a lot of the indie books, but some are hard to read (lots of mistakes) even if the story idea is good. This was what I'd call a "word painting," because I could actually see what Jessie was seeing. The dialog was believable, and revealing. The characters are described wonderfully, and become real people, even the minor ones (like the waitress at the local diner.)It's an easy read, but its not a low vocabulary, its because the words flow effortlessly from page to page.

Great story idea.
When you find out whats going on and who people are, its really a cool surprise. It is completely different than anything Ive read, and leaves it open to a whole series of books if the author chooses. Id also really love to see the same story from the other main characters point of view.

What I didn't love;

Sometimes wordy.
It was a little wordy in parts, but I dont know if it was really too wordy, or just that I wanted to hurry up and find out certain things. I liked the details in the book because everything was so real, but there were a few times that the descriptions were beautiful but I just wanted to hurry and see what happened next!

The ending.
The fact that it was over. It was really a GREAT ending, wrapped everything up nicely, was very satisfying, was not what you expected, but definately left room for a sequel or a series.

So anyway, thats my review. The story was sweet, romantic, mysterious and surprising. The characters lived and breathed on the pages. It was well written, with emotional highs and lows. I will read it again, just to see how many clues I missed!

Hope this helps and thanks for reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful story March 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Unique read. That sums up this book. For a paranormal romance book it can't be compared to another. It has no werewolves, vampires, ghosts, fairies etc. But that is a good thing. It is very much a character driven book in that you will either like the characters or hate them. I will admit that you do actually have to "think" at times and or you will get a little lost, due to the time changes. However, I think that is what makes this book special. I also enjoyed watching the characters go and change throughout the story. I really want to read the sequel. When will that be out.
Will I read it again? Yes I have
Would I recommend it? Yes

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Timeless Love Story! January 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Tempus will melt your heart a thousand times eternity. Tyra Lynn will break your heart a thousand times with this breathtaking love story between Jessie and Gabriel. If you're wondering about the thousand times thing, they're Gabriel's words to Jessie: for you, a thousand times eternity. That's just a little hint to show you the beautiful love between these two. Tyra Lynn has created an intriguing heart-felt love story which shows nothing can separate soul mates--not even time. I also liked the way Tyra Lynn showed Jessie's feeling for Steve. I think most teenage girls have found their self in this situation with a guy, and to me, Lynn wrote this real. I don't find it leading a guy on at all. I felt Jessie was being true to her feelings like any teenage girl trying to figure her feelings out and make the responsible, right choice for her. So I really don't like when others call this "leading a guy on" because it's not. It's part of growing up. So thank you, Tyra Lynn for show a teenagers girl's heart for caring about two guy and I also give Tyra Lynn high praise for her awesome writing and storyline.

Jessie is seventeen and it's her last week of summer before she starts her senior year. Jessie also has visions, or glimpses as she calls them, but only when she touches antiques. And with her father's antique shop she, has a lot of glimpses. When she touches any kind of old object she can see the person who owned it. When Jessie's father buys a nineteenth century full-length-mirror Jessie is going to get more than a glimpse of someone else's life, she's going to get her own past, present, and future in the most gorgeous blue-eyed boy she's ever seen. And he's looking back at her. Jessie's glimpses turn into deja vu when she walks into her father's shop and meets the new guy her dad has hired. It's her mirror guy. Gabriel is gorgeous, with blue eyes and black hair, and he's from the nineteenth century. And he needs Jessie to remember...But with Gabriel and Jessie's love, one day can change their love for ever.

Tempus is a timeless love story with these two soul mates, and with the cliffhanger ending, it definitely has me hoping Tyra Lynn writes with a fast pen. I recommend Tempus as a must read.

Tempus: who else fell in love with this Indie gem?
I read this one right after it came out and it is one of my favorite books ever. I recommend it a lot to people who like YA paranormal romances. I tried to start a discussion on it once too but I guess its still so new that not that many people have read it yet.
