The thing is, this screen is designed for the slim PS2. It doesn't require its own power cord, and keeps a very neat low profile. When you close the lid, it shuts itself off. It has 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio selection, and decent sound. It looks good, but it suffers from screen motion blur in fast paced games. This is a common problem on LCD screens with a slow response time, and that's what we have here. Also, some fonts look shoddy and can be hard to read.I'd wait for it to go under $100 before I'd buy it again. If the response time was better I could see paying the extra bucks, but since it's a cheap screen you should pay a cheap price.

WHY YOU SHOULD SKIP GAME GLASS's FOR JOYTECH's:I was looking on the internet for an LCD monitor for my PStwo, so I decided to read some reviews on it. Luckily I'm already a big gamer, so I knew the best site to get some gaming information: IGN.com. Then I read through all the LCD monitors available for the PStwo and found out that Joytech's was far and away the best (even among the the older ones for the bulkier PS2 system). This had a 640x480 resolution (twice that of other screens) which makes for a gamer like me (an RPG gamer) be able to read text in games a lot easier. After finding the screen I wanted it was just a matter of finding a place that sells this awesome piece. First I went to Froogle, and there was only one match: Wal-Mart-and that was Online only. Then I tried Nextag (which gave me a lot more results) and Buy.com was the cheapest (well at least in shipping). I'm now loving my screen as it's everything I was expecting it to be (although IGN said in their review the sounds not that good, well it's not BAD, you're not going to get 5.1 surround sound coming out of the speakers or headphones). The screen offers up three viewing "input" modes, Game/DVD, Game (RGB) and Game (YCbCr). The four image adjustment options are available in the more movie-friendly (the image is softer) Game/DVD setting, though the Game (RGB) and Game (YCbCr) settings have locked values for the color and saturation values. Here's the link to IGN's review: http://gear.ign.com/articles/631/631696p1.html and find it at www.buy.com

Okay, I'm in Iraq at the writing of this review. I needed a small gaming system that would stand up to a little abuse. I had a PS2 back in the day and saw the PS2 slim and this little puppy and I thought it would be pretty easy to lug it around. Man, I am so glad that I bought this thing with my PS2 slim!! It came with a really good carrying case that you can fit the PS2, 2 controllers, 10 games, power supply, and even a few other little things. It takes up so little room that I was pretty proud of myself about finding it. Okay, the resolution is not as good as your television but dude, what do you expect for a 7" LCD screen under $100? The sound is really good and it supports two headphones. The screen bolts right to the back of the PS2 and stays very snug, resembling that of a laptop screen. The screen turns itself off when you close it against the PS2. The carrying case that came with it was so well designed that it will strap to the back of your headrest in your car and BAM! You've got an instant PS2 in the car. Since the PS2 plays movies as well, you're good to go with movies for the kids. The case even comes with a 12 votl DC power adapter for the PS2 and two sets of headphones. Overall, this complete package is incredible for the low price. I would definitely reccommend it to any military person going TDY because of the space concerns that we must cope with. Basically you have your own little entertainment world in a compact case. Well worth the money. Go get one!!!

Let's take a look:7" Game Glass LCD screen for PS2 Slim supports the resolution 480x234 and costs $140 (February 2006) 7" Mojoplay LCD screen for PS2 Slim supports the resolution 1440x234 and costs $120. 8" Joytech LCD screen for PS2 Slim supports the resolution 640x480 and costs $160. It also comes with a car adapater and remote control, plus built-in brightness and contrast controls. I admit that I didn't try Game Glass, only Mojoplay and Joytech, but obviously both Game Glass and Mojoplay simply cannot deliver any decent results at only 234 lines of resolution. Sure the screen size is large, but details are very difficult to read. I couldn't read average-sized text or see enough details on Mojoplay and I expect the same to be true with Game Glass. After finding a very favorable magazine review of Joytech I decided to try it as well and I was truly amazed with the difference. Joytech quality is visibly much better and it displays all the details that Mojoplay and Game Glass simply cannot. At first I believed that both Game Glass and Mojoplay supported only 234 lines of resolution due to technical reasons, but now I see that this is not true and I'm even disappointed that such screens are being sold for gaming purposes. I can now recomend Joytech for use during travel and at home, even as an alternative to a larger monitor. While Mojoplay and Game Glass are sufficient only for travel and not with every game. Note that I couldn't find the Joytech screen on Amazon.com but it can be found on Google and Froogle. It's also difficult to find information if Joytech is designed for the regular or slim PS2, but indeed it is for slim PS2.

Excellent PS2 Screen,

I bought this screen on closeout for about $50 and am 100% pleased with my purchase. It does tend to accentuate the brights a bit much and some text can be difficult to read but it is still a superb product.[...]

You could use it if you like PS2 game on the road that much. In hindsight, it was a waste of money on my part.

I read the other reviews about this product and was expecting so-so performance when I got it... I played BattleFront on it when I got it and WOW! I cannot trust the negative reviews! This has a great picture, whether in 4:3 or 16:9 ratio. Of course, the 16:9 is better. (don't tell anyone, I'm playing this at work now...) Sound is what one would expect... nuff said. I highly Reccommend the Pelican 7" GAMEGLASS for the slim PS2

False Advertising,

In some screenshots of the box, you can see where it says "Supports maximum resolution supported by your PSP." This is false. The unit's resolution is 480x234, which is also a tad greater than 16:9. The unit's power comes from the original PS22's power adapter, and can be switched off independently from the PS2. It also says it has "brightness/contrast controls." What it has is one brightness knob, possibly with contrast control combined in it. The screen leaves much to be desired, but as of right now it's the only one designed for the slim ps2. As the previous reviewer stated, the screen is slow, and text is hard to read. Not enough quality for the price. Also beware - if you use an optical cable for audio, make sure it's a low profile one. I use a monster optical cable and the connector is too big to get through the hole in the screen's base.

the maximum resolution for the PS2 is 480p. 16:9 is an aspect ratio, not a resolution. it is commonly known as "widescreen". normal TV aspect ratio is 4:3, which is used by the Gameglass. it does have 16:9 capability, but it is letterboxed, of course. to get any greater resolution, the PS2 would have to be equiped with an HD out, such as HD component or HDMI. the lowest HD resolution is 720i, which is not possible with current gen consoles. the only console on market right now that supports that resolution output is the 360, which supports 720i, 720p, and 1080i. so, this is NOT false advertising, as the Gameglass supports 480p. know what you're talking about before calling someone out.and i'll assume you meant to say PS2 instead of PSP, because this is not a product for PSP. in addition, if you're concerned about quality versus price, you are getting a great deal. a higher quality screen with a higher refresh rate can be found, and it's called an lcd tv. you'll be lucky to find one at under $300, and they don't make them this small or portable. in conclusion, don't listen to people who don't do proper research. you'll end up missing out on some cool stuff. |
