could not bring myself to spend high $$ for the amount of time I would need this....fired it up when I first got it to familiarize myself with the operation...sat in my garage for two years with old fuel in it (don't do that)...took about 50 pulls on the starter (probably to clear the sludge out of the fuel lines), then fired right up...powered my furnace, fridge, a couple of lights... cycled back and forth from fridge to the tv/cable/wifi as to not have too large of load for this little engine that could....did this for about 3 days during an ice/snowstorm in the pnw and used about 14 gallons of unleaded. now that the old fuel is cleared out...it fires up on the first pull...planning on taking better care of this guy since he kept my family warm and food fresh during a tough week. had to test its limits with the coffee pot+fridge+furnace...heard the engine strain for about 5 seconds but then took all in stride...do some research on loads before spending big bucks for high watt/surge watt generator.

I just picked this up for $300 after hurricane Irene. We had borrowed a generator for our 5 day outage, but I didn't want to be behind the 8 ball again. This little gem runs a circular saw and sump pump simultaneously, so I have no doubt I could run a fridge and sump pump at the same time. Its is easy enough to start that my wife can do it with 2-3 pulls.

The only negatives would be a less than 4 gallon tank and no automatic low oil shutoff. But the two play well. After you run it dry ALWAYS CHECK and TOP OFF the OIL.

I have a cabin in the hills. We used a friends honda 2000 watt generator for years until he wasn't coming this year. I went to the local hardware store to pick up a Honda which was on sale for $900 for a 2000 watt. Then I saw this one for $250. It was a no brainer that I could buy 4 of these for the price of one honda. I'm not sure how much gas it burns but it doesn't burn much for the amount of power it puts out. This unit is much quieter than I thought it would be. I would recommend this one to everybody.
