The movie is a great movie. The movie itself I will heartily recommend to all Marines, and I guess other military enthusiasts. ;-)

BUT...

I thought I was getting a newly released DVD version from the parent company. I was wrong.
Choices advertised of this item are NEW and USED. I ordered NEW.
However, upon receipt yesterday, I discovered that while it was sealed in a box, it was not an original, but a copy of a VHS. While it may fit the bill as NEW because of a new DVD on which it was copied, it should not be advertised as such.

Yes, the plastic box was new, but that was all.
1. The DVD was a copy of at least a second generation VHS copy.
I own a 1st generation copy bought almost 20 years ago in Japan. My copy still higher quality than this DVD.
2. The artwork on the box is a poor scanned-in copy of the original VHS box and possibly clips cut from the movie.

I have since learned that the parent company with the rights to this movie have not yet released it on DVD. This means it could be an infringment of Copyright Laws. Be careful.

In any case, it should not be listed as "NEW"
It should list as a Copy, or preferably...
a "NEW DVD OF AN OLD VHS COPY".

This was one of the neatest Viet Nam war films made. It is in my opinion, a precursor to Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket. The DVD itself however, is of the same quality as a VHS recording in the extended play mode. The marketplace seller's description mentions "PERFECT PICTURE." This is not the case. Given that this is the only production of this movie available on Amazon, buyers interested do not have a choice. I returned the DVD to the seller.

Bottom line: Great movie, but do not expect a high quality picture.

The Boys in Company C is a great movie, but don't buy this version. The person copied a bad VHS onto DVD and is selling it labeled "New". Amazon should cut this person off.

I purchased this same copy of this movie and just like the other reveiwers who also own this I also want to tell you that this is a very poor bootleg copy. I don't even understand how they can sell this without getting busted. Amazon should drop this item until someday the real version of this movie is released. I'm telling you that this copy is unwatchable. I like the movie although it is a little cheezy and unrealistic.

Do NOT buy this version--- I too bought this a while back hoping it was the real deal, but it's not! I agree, Amazon should cut this seller off- personally, I would like my money back!
This is obviously a BAD VHS to DVD copy (it's not even well done) and besides the bad picture, it isn't in Widescreen & there is no pan & scan- it's just PLOP! into the middle of the picture & people's faces, reactions and important moments are lost!

do not buy THIS version....

I am happy to say I saw this morning in my email that a REAL version- Widescreen & all will be available Sept 2008!!!

All that said- this movie itself is one of the best & earliest Viet Nam movies- an ensemble cast works together in a really well directed performance. Since this version sucks- see the other version for a real reel review :)

DON'T BUY THIS VERSION!!!

The opening scene of the new recruits is one of the funniest clips ever filmed. I have been waiting for this film to be released for years. I saw it a long time ago on HBO and have been looking for this for years. It recently came out on the American Movie Channelbut they had to do a ;ot of editing for TV
this is a classic Viet Nam movie that will show you some real life military blunders.

This is a very good movie but this is as far as it goes. The movie's premise claims to take a group of misfits and places them in a war scenario where they transform and become heroic. I am old enough to remember the Vietnam War and the opposite was true. In reality, the war transformed decent young men and turned them into maladjusted misfits and drug addicts. But make no mistake about it, this is a very entertaining action adventure film but reality stops there. If you want to truth, visit any VA hospital and speak with the Vets there who served in the war and still have not adjusted into main stream society. There is reality and there is romanticism. This movie, though entertaining, is the latter.

I give them 5 out of 5 for refunding me quickly and without any hassle. The customer service was great! Thanks!

Like duh! What's with the "Full Screen" Deal? This movie was filmed in cinemascope or something like it. I have this movie in original widesceeen on VHS. Great movie, to bad about the "Hack-Attack" of the dreaded "Pan & Scan". Guess I won't purchase this version of the movie either(besides not buying the movie "Full Metal Jacket" for the same reason). Wake-up you film people, the age of HDTV is already here and the ratio has changed for TV. It's called HDTV and it uses the "Golden Triangle" Ratio which is a rectangle and not a square box as regular TV.
