Book Description

Kirkus Reviews Best of 2012 List!

A whisky-and-splash comic chaser for the godawful 2000s. Anglican Seinfeld. Wodehouse with more sex, Waugh with more heart. Who's for a bit of what we're having, a perfect fizzer of a Brit-American cocktail, with a happy ending for all time?

"Sparkling... Literate, funny, and romantic... " -- Kirkus Reviews (starred review)*

Each Book of Chesterfield is a novella-length story with its own lunatic plot-line. Together the three Books form a unified novel.

"A strikingly unique narrative voice, well-drawn female characters, and a hilarious, poignant male lead... a great, enjoyable read." Natalie DeVaull, winner of the 2010 Wilda Hearne Flash Fiction Contest

Book One: CHESTERFIELD GETS THE GATE -- When his alluring wife Deborah bolts with Benedict Hoepplewhite, Chesterfield must accept the iron dictates of his family code: no gentleman subjects a woman to the indignity of divorce. A gentleman needn't, however, take it entirely lying down. Whether allying with a lesser evil (the Mafia) to take down Hoepplewhite, "chucking a dummy" in a French bistro to foil Deborah's latest gambit, or unleashing his valiant dog Daisy on gun-wielding hooligans, Chesterfield is keen for action. But who'd have thought that winsome green-eyed kindergarten teacher Carrie Hahn would so perfectly match with him in zest for mischief?

I saw this novel on the Kirkus Reviews Best Books of 2012 list. A fun read when you're tired of weighty topics. Deliciously enjoyable, well written. There are 3 volumes I think - all really one book. I'm on the second.

More About the Author

Gwyn Parry is Welsh, German, American, and something else or other. He lives, a bit less grandly than Chesterfield and Carrie, in the Finger Lakes Wine Country. He is a different author than the Welsh poet of the same name, and for verse he commends you to the work of that other worthy gentleman.
