5.0 out of 5 stars Three Great Workouts..Aerobics, Dance and Firming Up, September 19, 2006
This review is from: THE FIX -A DANCE WORKOUT (DVD)
"The Fix: A Dance Workout" is much more then the name implies. This DVD that I picked up for a buck at Walmart(along with a couple of others, I will mention Later)is an excellent find. You cannot go wrong with this one for that price. There are three effective and energizing 20 minute workouts. Aerobics, Dance, and a floor workout for firming upper and lower body. Suzanne Cox is the instructor. She's very likeable and she does an excellent job of coaching, cuing, breaking down some of the more complicated moves, and reminding us of proper positioning. There are 5 other women from various walks of life, in the class ranging from early 20's to late 30's. The music is up-to-date and invigorating. The 3 workouts are good for anyone at any level, modifying for your own physical needs, and flow from one to the next, so you can do 1 or all three depending on your time and endurance.

After a brief introduction to 'The Team" and what's coming up, the first workout is the aerobics. A warm up for a couple of minutes, which includes a little stretch, and then into a heart pumping routine, moving in all directions, up and back, side to side, grapevines, etc. The routine builds up in energy level and also impact. One of the class, come forward to do the movements at low-impact, so beginners or those needing low impact(this would be me, with a hip replacement), can follow her. The last few minutes is a "warm down", bringing your heart rate back to normal. Intermediate and advance will probably want to continue on to the next segment, which is the dance routine.

Another bit of a warm up, for those that are starting with this segment, and then Suzanne goes into a break down of the moves for the first part. The moves are looser and more creative, and fun then the aerobics. They take a little practice, if you are not into , nor have ever really done any dance routines(this would be me again). After going over the moves individually and then together several times, you'll move on to part 2 of the dance, with more moves that get a little more complicated. It took me several times to get them down. Then part 1 and 2 is put together for a really good and fun workout, and you'll go through that several times.
Again, the last few minutes, will be a warm down to get your pulse rate back down.

Next up is a floor work out, that also begins with a marching type warm up, that loosens up your entire body in case you are starting with this one. Some ab work with some crunches, leg lifts in various ways will hit your ham string and butt, and you'll feel it, combined with some push ups and then more abs hitting the obliques, gives you just enough to hit the entire body with a firm up. At the end of this segment, there is a lovely stretch. If you have a yoga mat, you may want to use it during this segment for comfort and to keep dust and carpet fibers away from your face.

The really nice thing, is that it doesn't get boring. Beginners can start with any one of the 20 minute segments, maybe 3 times a week, do as much as you can, always cooling down, wherever you stop, and working up to a little longer each time. Intermediate and Advanced can probably do the entire hour, and may want to add weights at times to make it more of a challenge(for example some ankle weights during the leg lifts, would really make it harder). Suzanne reminds you to stop at any time you feel the need, and to work at your own level and pace.

The DVD is very nice for the price. There are scene selections for you to choose where you want to go. Warm ups, routines, warm downs, and stretch. This is nice so you can go to the stretch right after any of the workouts.Good picture and sound too.The only things missing, were some men in the class, and maybe somebody over 40 for inspiration. Two other DVD workouts I found on the same rack, at the same price at Walmart is "Firm it Up" also with Suzanne Cox and "Tai Chi Innerwave" with Joey Bond. I'll be trying these out over the next few weeks, and let you know through reviews of those, how they were.

I work out every day, and one of the ways I can tell if the workout was effective, is if I still feel it hours later.I also like something that is a refreshing addition to my routines. This one I can say was most effective and enjoyable...what a bargain!

Remember to breathe, eat healthy, and...enjoy...Laurie

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bang for the Buck, January 25, 2007
This review is from: THE FIX -A DANCE WORKOUT (DVD)
Three great 20-minute workouts: One athletic aerobics, one dancey aerobics, and one floorwork toning. The music is thumping, the lighting is interesting, and the instructor (a former Gladiator from the UK) has a very friendly and non-intimidating attitude. Money well spent!

This review is from: THE FIX -A DANCE WORKOUT (DVD)
Three good segment choices of varying difficulty with warmup and in twenty minute chunks make this a decent workout video. The lead woman is not annoying and the set up and music are enough to get you there but not distracting. Probably not flashy enough for some but as something to get me up and moving this works very well.
