Book Description

THE GLASS GUARDIAN

Ruth Travers has lost a lover, both parents and her job. Now she thinks she might be losing her mind.

When death strikes again, Ruth finds herself the owner of a dilapidated Victorian house on the Isle of Skye: "Tigh na Linne", the summer home she shared as a child with her beloved Aunt Janet, the woman she'd regarded as a mother.

As Ruth prepares to put the old house up for sale, she discovers she's not the only occupant. Worse, she suspects she might be falling in love again... With a man who died almost a hundred years ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highland Supernatural Love Story June 7, 2012
By LynnL
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
There is something very special about ghost stories set in Scotland; it just seems to be THE perfect setting and as usual, Linda Gillard has crafted a fine story with the elements of supernatural, mystery, and romance including loves lost and found. Ruth Travers is at a major crossroad where she has some serious life choices to make after a year of much emotional upheaval and to further complicate or make things interesting, she comes into contact with 3 very interesting men. It's a nice change to have a heroine who has some miles on her and does not spend most of the book making youthful blunders that the heroines do in a much of paranormal literature. The ghost element adds interest and poignancy to the story and speaks to the transcendent nature of love across time and eternity.

As with Linda's other books, the reader gets a good story as well as an education; in this case, music, the life of a soldier in World War 1, Victorian houses on the Isle of Skye and gardening in such a talented way interwoven into the story so that it does not distract, but rather enhances and enriches the characters and their relationships.

Even readers who are not generally paranormal fans will enjoy this story because the quality of the writing makes it a very worthy read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A chilling romance June 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I loved Ms. Gillard's book The Glass Guardian. It was chilling in a warm, and romantic way. It sounds like the words chilling and warm should not go together, but that's the only way I could describe the feeling of reading this novel. I found it difficult to break away when work duties called, but quickly found reason to fire up my kindle. I look forward to re-reading this story at some point. Yes! It's that good.

What I loved about The Glass Guardian is the romance. You immediately like Ruth, and become involved with her relationships past and present--the one she had with her Aunt Janet, who raised her, and the men she meets when she returns to Janet's house--the caretaker and the ghost. There is also another character who is interested in investigating Janet's music. This third character is a consistent thread throughout the novel--the one who seems to keep Ruth grounded in life outside of the house.

The most delicious aspect for me was the feeling of being afraid yet delighted at the same time. I enjoyed all the characters--both the quick and the spectral. Linda is a storyteller who draws you in at the start. You'll want to know what will become of the characters and you will cheer Ruth along the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars A heart warming story April 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I fell in love with this story after just a few pages! Like when reading Star Gazing, I didn’t what to put my Kindle down for fear of what would happen when I was not there to read about it. It is wonderful feeling to actually miss the characters when not reading about them and this love story with a twist lingered in my mind all the way through to the last page. This is the perfect story to cozy up with on the couch on a rainy afternoon, or in the first rays of spring sunshine in the park. If you have not read anything by Linda Gillard yet, start with this one and then continue with her other works. You will not regret it!
