This review is from: THE THEOLOGY OF JOHN SMYTH (Hardcover)
Jason K. Lee masterfully collected the primary sources of late sixteenth and early seventeenth century theologians and layman connected with beginning of the first Baptist church. He argues that the Anabaptists had a strong influence on the Armenian theology of John Smyth and Thomas Helwys. A long debated issue that has never reached complete agreement among scholars. I believe his weakpoint is the timeline from 1608 to 1609, but it is well argued by Lee for his interpretation. This is the most complete book that is also an easy read for understanding the difficulty in determing what the greatest influence on John Smyth truly was. Lee wrote this book in such a way that any layman could read and understand it because he explains every topic discussed with great clarity.
