Good Thinking,
This review is from: THINK Psychology (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
Regardless about how one feels about the "politics" of this book, this is a great text by virtue of how each page presents more correct and usable information than most of the contemporary textbooks currently on the market. And for the money it's a fantastic buy! The graphics/pictures are excellent in their vibrancy and detail. The up-to-date research has to put smiles and wonderment on instructors and students respectively. The "upclose and personal" chapter introductions make the course content real and contemporary, e.g., Megan Meier & the Close sisters. I really dig the timeline fold out in the back. For an introduction/general course Ms. Baird's text is a model/standard to be studied by students, instructors, and authors.

We like the format of the book. It is very easy to follow along as a textbook or as a general reference book for the home.

THINK Psychology,

I saved around $15 by purchasing this book from Amazon instead of the campus book store. After receiving the book I was informed by the class instructor I would need an access code for THINK Psychology, which was provided with the book if purchased through the campus book store. I contacted the instructor, the campus book store, the publisher and Amazon for over a week, even though they all responded, Amazon was the only one that tried to find a solution to the problem. I am happy to report that Amazon did not give up on their search until I was satisfied. Amazon provided a solution and I am very satisfied with the service I received from Amazon.

Basically this is the same as the previous years. Its really just a magazine and I never once read a single page for school still getting a B+ for the class, and I am no genius

Flash over Content,

This review is from: THINK Psychology (Paperback)
Is this book eye-catching and colorful? Absolutely. The content is even laid out well, but the authors inject politics where they don't belong - in a textbook! For example, a large proportion of pictures and examples use President and Michelle Obama where any other person would have served just as well - and perhaps might have illustrated the point better by not providing a distraction in the form of a polarizing figure! (To contrast, former President Bush appears in a single photo, unnamed amongst other world leaders. The only other mentions of Republicans or conservatives and minimal and in a negative sense.) For another, it frequently mentions the fear students apparently ought to have when thinking of the planet's environmental future. For a publication that takes the care to warn against biases, it certainly puts forward quite an agenda!
Are the points it uses up for debate in the classroom? Certainly, but they should be put forth by the students, not the text. If a textbooks does all the interpreting for him, how can a student learn to draw his own conclusions from an objective text?
