I bought this monitor to replace an aging CRT which had a 1600 x 1200 resolution, 21", 4x3 aspect ratio. I am an engineer who uses large spreadsheets, and also develops technical manuals and procedures. Since the industry is moving to wide screen monitors and I didn't want to lose out on the 1200 vertical resolution, I ended up with a minimum requirement of 1920 x 1200 native resolution. After quite a lot of time spent reviewing monitors on the Internet, the L2440X appeared to be the clear choice. Now that I have it, especially appreciated is the ability to display two full pages of MS Word documents side by side. The edit page can be wide enough to display all those blasted buttons and formatting windows. Besides having good reviews on the quality of the picture, the tipping point for me was the adjustable height. No eye strain at all after a two hour session! Only negative was that the tilt had to be carefully adjusted in order to keep the brightness of the screen the same from top to bottom. If I slouched in my chair, the top of the screen would dim a little. In any case, I'm sure there is monitor envy with my colleagues. I make sure I lock my office before I go home!
