Biography

Bobby Darin was the US born crooner and folk rock singer who sang classic tunes including “Mack the Knife” and “Splish Splash”.

Darin was a gifted musician and was a multi-instrumentalist as a youth. Determined to pursue a career in music, he left college and became a night club singer. Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

This Is Darin, the 1960 follow-up to the "Mack the Knife"/"Beyond the Sea" vehicle That's All, finds those hit songs' young, exciting Darin already slipping into nightclub jive. "Clementine" is some awful marriage of the old ballad and the Flamingo Hotel, while "Guys and Dolls" loses its sardonicism to the newly minted superstar's straight-faced reading. However, those interested in a flashy time capsule with an admittedly great cover photo might dig this. --Rickey Wright

Marcos is right.

While the the original vinyl release of "This is Darin" is terrific, this is a terrible transfer. Hisses & pops from the source (an old LP?) are clearly audible, and the whole thing sounds like it's playing too slow, as Darin's voice on the CD is too low.

Save your dollars and wait for a better re-issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars DARINS BEST, February 6, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: THIS IS DARIN (Audio CD)
The best of the ATCO recordings. Great arrangements by Richard Wess, this is Darin at his Sinatra ultimate. This is not copycat music, Darin was an original he put his own indeliable stamp on these tunes. Highlights, include "Dont Dream of Anybody But Me" which is really the Neil Hefti Basie "Lil Darlin'" classic,"Guys and Doll" with a robust reading by Darin and Wess'staccotto arrangement blaring, and I dare anyone to compare the last 3 tracks of any album to this one for sheer pop bliss.

If you only buy one CD of Darin, please get this one. I know the compilations are probably more bang for the buck musically but for sheer DARIN POWER this is the one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy The Hallmark version - it's terrible., September 15, 2010

This re-release of an exceptional album is pathetic. I know another reviewer stated the same problems as mine. This was recorded from an lp, scratches and all, at the wrong speed. Please do not buy this version of the CD. Try and get the orignal though, it is an excellant album. Perhaps the best original Darin album. I rated it 5 stars because of the original artistic merit of this album, but I cannot overstate the criminal quality of this "Hallmark" release. Be careful.
