Marcos is right. While the the original vinyl release of "This is Darin" is terrific, this is a terrible transfer. Hisses & pops from the source (an old LP?) are clearly audible, and the whole thing sounds like it's playing too slow, as Darin's voice on the CD is too low. Save your dollars and wait for a better re-issue.

DARINS BEST,
By A Customer
This review is from: THIS IS DARIN (Audio CD)
The best of the ATCO recordings. Great arrangements by Richard Wess, this is Darin at his Sinatra ultimate. This is not copycat music, Darin was an original he put his own indeliable stamp on these tunes. Highlights, include "Dont Dream of Anybody But Me" which is really the Neil Hefti Basie "Lil Darlin'" classic,"Guys and Doll" with a robust reading by Darin and Wess'staccotto arrangement blaring, and I dare anyone to compare the last 3 tracks of any album to this one for sheer pop bliss. If you only buy one CD of Darin, please get this one. I know the compilations are probably more bang for the buck musically but for sheer DARIN POWER this is the one.

Do not buy The Hallmark version - it's terrible.,

This re-release of an exceptional album is pathetic. I know another reviewer stated the same problems as mine. This was recorded from an lp, scratches and all, at the wrong speed. Please do not buy this version of the CD. Try and get the orignal though, it is an excellant album. Perhaps the best original Darin album. I rated it 5 stars because of the original artistic merit of this album, but I cannot overstate the criminal quality of this "Hallmark" release. Be careful.

Unbelievable product quality. They made a bad copy from LP. You hear noises of all kinds and worst of all, recorded from the wrong rotation. It appears that another artist is singing. Bobby, do your worst!,

Bobby Darin was, in my personal opinion -a very personal opinion-, an unique case in popular music. A chameleon who swinged between rock and roll and easy listening music with big bands, tuxedos, beautiful girls, martinis and a lot of class. Mr. Darin lived a fast life, because he already knew he was about to die in any moment. His reumathic fever was killing him from the inside, but all his fans looked and listened to him like nothing bad was happening. Well, This album proves that sometimes pretending can be real. Darin was in 1960 at the top of his professional career as an entertainer. He always took the music business seriously, and in the meantime, he had fun with it because the time was short for him. In this collection of songs, he reinvens "Clementine" and Duke Ellington's "Caravan", and he shows his most heartful voice -a very sad claim to love, but ironic in a ceirtain way- in "Don't Dream of Anybody but me", in my opinion the best performance of Bobby Darin ever and the only reason you may have to go and get this album. Atlantic Records released this album in 1960, the perfect Vegas year for Bobby, and the result deserves our five stars that you see at the beginning.

Terrible quality of a great Album,

It's so sad what Hallmark Uk did to this classic Bobby Darin album? they used a badly scratched LP as source for this release, it's sounds like a one penny flea market record that was found on a dusty attic, on some tracks you can hear they used a poor cleaning up software that makes it sound like Darin is singing into a tin can, and you still hear pops, crackles and his, if Hallmark was smart they should have used the original 1994 cd (USA) release as source as they probably also do with their Elvis cd's because they sound just like they RCA versions. I have to agree with the other reviewers and tell you "Do not buy" even if you get it for free don't unseal it but throw it away, and find a original 1994 CD version, you'll find them here and on ebay, and much more worth your money!

This is a recording of a scratchy LP. I should be allowed to return it, especially since the samples are not scratchy and therefore misleading.
