Very good gun, November 12, 2006
This gun is very good, but has a few problems. First the problems, the gun is easily field stripable and takes only minutes to disasemble, but re-asembeling the gun is a much longer endeavor. The trigger grip does not easily fit back on to the body. Also, the stock grip handle for the hand that is not shooting is plastic, unlike the rest of the gun. I suggest getting an aluminum handle, it's cheap. The stock barrel is decent, but only with certain types of paint. I play at a field with a field paint only rule, so I looked into an aftermarket barrel.
Ok, now the pluses. This gun is great. The response trigger is definately worth it. I was playing against mid-level tournament markers and I was holding my own, although I do not suggest this gun over a tournament marker. Also, it is extremely durable and sturdy. The cyclone feed system eliminates the need for an electro-hopper, which saves money. The other thing is that it runs on much cheaper CO2, while tournament markers are turning to expensive compressed air. Lastly, this gun is frightening, it looks intimidating. If you can spend the money over the 98 or the Custom, than buy this gun because it is one of the best wood and screnario gun around.

Tippmann A-5 Is a best buy, March 24, 2004
One of the best amateur paintball markers on the market. The best bang for the buck!!! (Highly recommended to get an air hose kit as opposed to mounting the tank on the gun). Unbelievable accuracy, especially with the flatline barrel kit

I just never got the hang of the RT, December 20, 2004
I've been playing since the late 80's, and I've had dozens-maybe 100+ different paintguns/markers. This is one of my favorites. My first A5 had a response trigger on it, and I just couldn't get the hang of it. I had to return it and pay a few bucks more for the egrip, and THAT WAS WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY!!!!!
The stock barrel is a lot better than the Model 98's, but I prefer a cheap smoothbore 16" aftermarket barrel. I also run on compressed air as CO2 just will not cycle this gas hog. So, it's not the most accurate, it's certainly not the fastest firing, it's not very lightweight, and it's a gas hog, BUT with that aftermarket barrel...it's the second most accurate marker I've ever had. It's also one of the most fun because it feels so solid, looks so real, and even has a real feel to it. When stalking through the woods, I found it just fun to peer down the sights....'course, it's a LOT better when there's a few red armbands on the other end. That's when the egrip earns its pay, and yeah....it's worth every penny. I strongly suggest getting the A5 with the egrip, and an aftermarket barrel!!!
