Economical For the Home, January 27, 2012
This review is from: TITLE Classic Speed Bag Platform (Misc.)
This is a very economical speed bag wall set up for the home, and I have several of them installed in my own garage. They are great for light to medium use by a few people. It is not the best choice for a high traffic area with lots of people pounding away for long periods of time.
Some things to consider:
The unit is designed for the vertical wall mounts to fit on wall studs set at 16 inch centers, meaning the wall studs are 16 inches apart. the vertical wall mounts should either be (1) attached directly to the wall studs for support (2) attached to other wooden frame (1x4 or 2x4) that are attached to the wall studs. Do NOT attach this to a wall with just sheet rock lag screws, for they will not stand up to the punching vibration.
The Board is normally a lightweight MDL or presswood, particle board or other light weight material, and has a 24 inch diameter. With the swivel in the middle that only leaves a rebound arc of 12 inches for the bag, so any bag longer than 11 inches will rebound past the end of this board. Actually, I don't recommend any bag larger than an 11x8 be used on this, and it will work great for bags of 9x6 or smaller.
Due to the lightweight and narrow thickness of the rebound board, I would recommend adding some weight over the top, such as a 25 lb sandbag. This will help reduce vibration and offer a more solid rebound surface, increasing bag speed.
The adjustment up or down of these ecomomy boards with sliding slots and brackets is a bit difficult requiring wrenches. I set mine up so the lowest setting I need will have the lower U-BAR horizontal attachment resting solidly at the bottom of the Vertical bracket channel. Since I am the main person using it, I rarely have to raise it up. For someone shorter than me, I have small platforms for them to stand on. I find it easier to raise a short person up to use this than go through the hastle of adjusting the board height.
The key to setting the height of the board is really the Belly of the BAG you are using, which should be at your mouth or nose area. Hang the bag on the swivel and the fattest part of the bag should be somewhere between you mouth to nose. If it's much higher, you will end up altering your swing to use it, and be learning improper swing technique. Some keep the bag up higher for fitness or practice "keeping their hand UP" and I guess that is OK if you only punch from the front, but it's a horrible bag position for punching efficiently from all around.
This particular board set up has served me well for many years in my house and I recommend it.

Frustrating Product!, January 26, 2012
This review is from: TITLE Classic Speed Bag Platform (Misc.)
First off the product arrived without the Wrench(For 1/4" & 5/16" Nuts) which is a real pain in the ass. The 4 1/4" x 2" Carriage bolts had to be held with Pliers as I tightened the nuts, also a pain in the ass. After locating the studs in the walls and applying the mounting brackets to the wall with 1/4" x1-3/4" Lag Screws that were not supplied I then attempted to attach the Support Brackets to the Mounting Brackets only to find that the Support Bracket was bent. This resulted in three 18" 2x4's. I attached the 2x4's to the wall & then attached the mounting brackets to them with a narrower measurement to compensate for the bent Support Bracket. I had to buy a 2" Carriage bolt to connect The Mounting Brackets & the Support Brackets. I know I should of sent it back but I didn't want to wait any longer. Once on the wall the Speed bag is fine, just frustrating in it's construction.
