Product Description

Tommy Kono, more about him in a moment, developed these knee/elbow sleeves. The sleeves will keep your knees and elbows extremely warm. This helps to keep the joint well lubricated and assist in preventing injuries. You can use them for your knees or for your elbows. Why use Tommy Kono Sleeves? Who is Tommy Kono, probably America's greatest weightlifter. Here is a little about his accomplishments. During the 1950's, from the time he won his first Olympics in 1952, Tommy was invincible. He was undefeated internationally until the 1960 Olympic Games, where he took a silver metal. He set a total of 26 world records in 4 weight classes (when there were only 7 weight classes, classes that had been stable for decades). This feat has never been matched by any other weightlifter. This talented phenomenon excelled in physical competitions as well, winning the Mr. World competition in 1954 and Mr. Universe in 1955,1957 and in 1961. Along with Tommy's great accomplishments in his life he has also been inducted to the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame and the International Weightlifting Hall of Fame located at the International Olympic Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. He was one of the one hundred Golden Olympians invited to the 1996 Olympic Games as a Special Guest. These have been developed by arguably the best American weightlifter ever.

I'm a female, 5'6", 140 lbs, ordered size small, perfect fit.
Lacie M. Hewlett
A little hard to get on at first - ended up putting them on inside out then rolling them over top of themselves to get them on the right way out.
Unfortunately, they lasted about 3-4 months with 1-2 use a week.

I love these knee sleeves. I have never tried any other kind, but these are a miracle to me. I never had pain squatting until May when I slipped on some stairs and jammed my leg. I was prepping for a powerlifting competition and couldn't take the time off to let things heal. Of course the knee got worse (as expected). After the meet, I tried taking it easy on the leg, but even going up and down stairs was painful. I had been trying light squats to rehab the knee, but it wasn't working. Then I got the TK Bands. Wearing them while squatting 2 - 3 times a week actually healed my damaged knee. My knee is much, much better now. It's not perfect, but the daily pain is gone and I can squat heavy again now. They don't add more than a few pounds of push, which is great because I am a raw squatter and I don't want to have my lifts depend on the support. And unlike knee wraps, it is a joy to wear them throughout an entire training session. This means that I can do my squats sets and be done, instead of constantly wrapping and unwrapping my knees. They are comfortable enough that I don't bother taking them off until I get home. My only complaint is that they are really hard to get on and off. Maybe my legs are a little bigger than expected for my size, I don't know, but I'm in the middle of the weight range for the size (I'm 215 lbs. and I got a size Medium) and I can't imagine being near the top of the weight range and trying to squeeze into them, it takes me 5 minutes to get them on now.

As a certified trainer and avid proponent of the CrossFit methodology, I can say from personal use that these bands rock! Both my knees are damaged (USMC, racquetball, chondromeniscus patella) but proper squat form and the intensity of CF workouts helped to minimize a lot of the pain and ROM (range of motion) issues; still, going heavy and fast would aggravate these old injuries. The TK knee bands were mentioned on the CF forum and I decided to take a chance. Bottom line -- THEY WORK!.

Nothing special, no frills -- but they are strong and supportive, without binding. I can run, bike, and perform full ROM movements (squat) for hours with no pain during or after. After six months of use, the ribbon over the seam/stitching has come loose, but it hasn't impacted the band or diminished its performance. There is almost no sign of wear after six months of four to five uses per week. I will be ordering a pair for my elbows, as the only difference is in the size, not the function (i.e., there is no separate knee band and elbow band).

Recently, I returned to weightlifting after about four years off. When I competed previously, I weighed about 115 kg and I wore a pair of the largest Rehband knee sleeves. During my time off I seem to have lost them (and roughly 20 kg) so I was looking for a new pair. My new coach recommended these and they were cheaper so I went for it. They keep my knees very warm through my entire workout and they provide solid support in the bottom position.

*They recommend the medium for athletes up to 250 lbs but I don't think this is very accurate given the type of athlete who will likely purchase them. This may be fine for the average athlete but if you're a weightlifter and over 200 lbs I recommend the large. The medium fits me well enough but if my legs get any bigger I will likely buy a large.

**The instructions say to rinse the sleeves with tepid (warm) water after usage. I HIGHLY recommend adhering to this. With my old knee sleeves, I would only wash them every couple of weeks and leave them in my gym bag otherwise. After, three years of this, everything in my bag smelled awful. However, after a month of using the TK sleeves and rinsing them after each workout, there is no odor. Just remember to rinse them, let them air dry, and give them a little soap every month or so.

I bought these from Clarence Bass (the price was pretty much the same everywhere I looked so I might as well support someone as awesome as Clarence). I ordered on the phone 11 days before Christmas so they told me not to expect them for a week plus. However, two days later they were on my counter when I got home. The product itself is everything I's a thick neoprene knee sleeve. Are they overpriced?? Probably. But it's not like you can go and make your own. They are supposedly extremely durable so I shelled out some extra $$ to get the best. TK says that Mediums fit lifters up to 250 lbs. Many people have said this is NOT true.....and it's not. I got the large ones just to play it safe(I'm 238 with a 16.75 inch knee measurement)and even those are really tight. Putting them on with baby powder is the only way to fly. Only buy the mediums if you are a smaller dude or a female. Any full sized powerlifter or strongman will struggle to get the larges on. Performance? They provide the warmth and injury protection I was looking for. They are not like knee wraps where you get a significant increase in your Squat just by putting them on. They do, however, provide confidence which probably lets you push the envelope a little further. I'd buy them again and would definitely pay the 42.95 to get these as opposed to saving 10-20 bucks and getting crappy ones from a drug store or a sporting goods store.
