Duffy Makes A Triumphant Return!,
By
This review is from: TKO (A Duffy Dombrowski Mystery) (Paperback)
If you have not yet discovered this series, do yourself a favor, and do so now.
After he delivered a terrific debut with ON THE ROPES, I was anxiously looking forward to what Schreck would do for a follow-up. The answer: One of the most enjoyable reads of the year. Duffy is a true original, and Schreck has populated the boxer/social worker/Elvis Fanatic's world with a cast of characters to match. The plot kept me turning pages, stopping only for a good laugh, of which there are many. And while the author has done a marvelous job of building on the solid foundation he created in ON THE ROPES, it's entirely possible to enjoy TKO without having read the first book. But then again, why the heck would you not pick up both?

Another Knockout,

Schreck scores again. TKO is a mystery filled with laughs, action, bad basset hound manners, and heart. I read it in one sitting, and eagerly look forward to the next Duffy adventure.
If you like Spenser, Travis McGee, Stephanie Plum, or Elvis Cole, don't even hesitate---this is right your alley.

With this second book in the Duffy Dombrowski series author Tom Schrek proves that he's here to stay. I found TKO to be darker than On The Ropes but it never lost any of the the humor that made On The Ropes such a blast to read. TKO is the first book I've read of the new year and what a great way to kick things off.

We really enjoy spending time with Duffy and seeing where his adventure takes us. Tom has created a complex personality in his fighter/counselor. But he has really nailed the basset characteristics and we are impressed at the intricate relationship that is evolving between Duffy and Al. They make a great team, though I don't think Duffy thought so at first. We will look forward to another round with them.

TKO by Tom Schreck,
This review is from: TKO (A Duffy Dombrowski Mystery) (Paperback)
Loved, loved loved this book. Tom has a way of capturing your attention right from the first sentence. I read "On the Ropes" first and couldnt wait to read TKO. I simply could not put either book down. His keen wit and sense of humour are remarkable. I will be looking forward to more from Tom and his ecletic group of friends and of course the basset hound.

For those who like mysteries, thrillers and just a page turning read with enough exposition to whet your whistle and enough action for you to break a sweat rooting the good guys on and enough humor to split your funny bone five times over. Both On The Ropes and TKO, Duffy Dombrowski mysteries are spot on when they are crafting plots and drawing characters that would make Damon Runyon drool. It does not suspend belief that we all need a guy like Duffy Dombrowski in our lives or we need to be that guy for others. I look forward to author Tom Schreck's third Duffy book, sooner than later. On the Ropes: A Duffy Dombrowski Mystery Enjoy, I did.

Duff'd have you think he is just a clock-puncher when it comes to his roles as a boyfriend, dog owner, social worker or even as a pug -- but don't be fooled.
Sure, he allows more than a fair share of sand to be kicked in his face but cares about his situation far more than he'd ever let on. He's just been around long enough to know he ain't going to change the whole world. ...but woe unto the person who picks on the defenseless within Duff's purview. There's not a single complaint I can think of with Schreck's work. And for me, that's saying something. Ask my wife. I was laughing and held captivated by every page. I identified with Duff on seventeen different levels, I've BEEN Billy (WASABIII!!!) and from the humor to the different characters' conversations to the spot-on workplace and corner bar scenes I think I've been everyone else in Duffy's world as well. I found both 'TKO' and 'On The Ropes' hilarious, exciting, genuine, touching and very well written. 120-108 on all cards, easy decision- Tom Schreck's books are winners. -BillyD

blurb on TKO,
This review is from: TKO (A Duffy Dombrowski Mystery) (Paperback)
Filled with colorful characters, TKO is one of the best novels I've read this year. Schreck's wit and charm come to life on the page, and his crackling insight into the world of social work is spot-on. No easy feat. You don't wanna miss this one.
