5.0 out of 5 stars Not As Bad As People Say
This game's not as bad as people are saying. It's actually quite good. The gameplay's good, the action is great. As for people crying, "false advertising" because a CAW feature was mentioned by commercials & not present in this game, the commercials were advertising the PS 3 version, which does have that feature. Even though some PS 3 games do have a PS 2 counterpart, PS...

The controls are'nt very user friendly. The story line although cool, is only for some pre-made character, they came up with. And worst of all, my game has a glitch when you try to play a tag match. The tag partner outside the ring gets stuck if you hop off the ring apron(to the point where you can see their head sticking out of the ring.
Over all, a great idea for the best wrestling company in the bussiness, but they should have went with a game designer that had a clue how to make a wrestling game. My only hope is that since this is the first attempt, they will greatly improve on the next one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lackluster production and a rushed product, September 21, 2008

When I went to the store to buy this game, the cashier at the counter said it was one of the best games out there. He said that it played like WWF No Mercy did on N64. So instead of taking his word for it, I rented the game and thank God I did. This game is a waste of the 6 bucks it took to rent it! For starters, you can't do slams, suplexes, or anything else that may wow you from the top rope, there are no moves you can do to double team someone, the only weapons they have for crying out loud are chairs! Furthermore, I am really winded with the tag team section of this game. The one thing that I am impressed with here is the reversal system. That is about it. If I could give it a 1.75 stars, I would because giving it a 2 is being generous. Save your money and get the new SVR 09 when it drops in November.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Idea, But Needs More Work, September 11, 2008

TNA Impact! is good game based from a great show. The idea of this game is excellent with the rosters (even though there are no Knockouts,) the story mode and the unique match types. This game actually needs work on the controls and reversal techniques. @ this point, I've had this game for two days and I have finally beaten the story mode. I don't really have much to do with this game now that I've finished that mode and unlocked all arenas, hidden TNA stars, and jobbers (which they need to change up their moves in order to distinguish one from another.) The product advertisment for the PS2 were actually false as it said that I can play in modes such as King Of The Mountain, and Full Metal Mayhem. False! Also, there are no championships to play for, let alone a create-a-wrestler mode and legend mode as it was stated. All and all, not a bad game on the first try. I'm actually selling mine right now.

As for people crying, "false advertising" because a CAW feature was mentioned by commercials & not present in this game, the commercials were advertising the PS 3 version, which does have that feature. Even though some PS 3 games do have a PS 2 counterpart, PS 2 games are no longer advertised. Besides, Rumble Roses doesn't have a create-a-wrestler mode and that's a fun game. Of course, it also helps that the women in that game are hot. lol. I think the reason people are complaining about the controls is because they're too used to the WWE Smackdown games. I own & play other wrestling games besides WWE Smackdown. Rumble Roses, Backyard Wrestling, WWF Attitude, so the controls for TNA iMPACT aren't a problem for me. You can't blame a video game for your own difficulty adapting to something new. The Ultimate X match is awesome and there's a great roster. I hope the sequel (it's been confirmed TNA iMPACT! 2 is coming out, due in spring 2011) will include the Lethal Lockdown match. I hope, if they make a PS 2 version, they'll include create-a-wrestler mode. And, hopefully, there will be blood! All-in-all, fun game!

I got the game for cheap so it didn't matter that it wasn't very good. The smackdown games are way better than this game but I think it is at least alright for there first game. It was a let down though that there wasn't a create a wrestler mode. Also there were to many jobbers as unlockables and not enough actual wrestlers, the moves are way to repetative. I am looking forward to someone other than midway to make there next game.

2.0 out of 5 stars Yawn...., October 29, 2009
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: TNA Impact! (Video Game)
I got this game not too long ago so I would have something different to play when I am bored. The game has some decent things to it but it does not hold a candlestick to its competition.
The controls work good and the graphics are mediocre. The thing that aggravates me is the people that stand up and say well it was there first attempt. Well who cares ? Midway has been around a lot of years prior to the buyout of the Midway company. And they worked on the game for two years.
Its fun to play but I like my wrestlers well wrestling instead of what this game offers. To be honest the main reason I bought this game was to play as Sting and Aj Styles my two favorite wrestlers in TNA but even this game makes those great athletes look like washed up nothings. If you like wrestling games do yourself a favor and pick up the Smackdown games. Even the Legends of Wrestling 2 was better than this. No joke.

3.0 out of 5 stars A fun first effort..., January 5, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: TNA Impact! (Video Game)
TNA Impact is alright. It's certainly not the best out there, but worth it for any true wrestling fan.

I found the move set limited, and the engine had some positives and negatives to it. For example, you can move at different angles when you run, that's a positive. The reversals are easy to do.

But you can quickly find the strengths and weaknesses of the engine and exploit them. The Ultimate X match was fun, but clearly became a simple race to the X instead of a match before being able to get up to it.

When the opponents started getting stronger and stronger, I just took them outside, beat them with the chair for a bit, then worked them back into the ring to do my finisher.

I enjoyed it as a pro-wrestling fan. But the engine was the biggest letdown. Recommended for die hard pro wrestling fans.

2.0 out of 5 stars TNA & Midway Fail To Make An "Impact", December 5, 2008
By

(VINE VOICE)
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: TNA Impact! (Video Game)
I'll be honest from the start, I don't do video game reviews because I haven't really been into video games since Super Nintendo & Game Boy Advance as the only games I have for my PS2 are the WWE Video Games dating back to 2003. However after all the hype of TNA Impact & following the actual wrestling product itself, I decided to give this a try & turns out that's all this game was really was...hype. First of all, there is no "create a character" mode like advertised. The movesets are very limited with some wrestlers doing moves that they never did or would do in real life & you don't even get the options of changing the controls to your preference (at least let us choose between using the analog & directional buttons to move the characters). The only specialty match (past a one on one, tag, or three way match) is the Ultimate X match which you can play one on one or 3 way. There is a Falls Count Anywhere match but anything "hardcore" you do in that match you can do in any other match (all matches are no DQ & no countout) as well & you can't fight outside of the outside ringarea anyways (no going past the ramp or into the crowd) no matter what match you pick so there's really nothing special about that match. At the end of each match, there is a points screen but I don't get the point of having it when it doesn't tie into anything at all. There are bad glitches in the same where you'll get stuck trying to get in the ring & have to end the match or restart the game which is a pain in story mode if you don't save your progress after each & every single match. There are some little minor things that may or may not bug you concerning the entrances: they are only 15 second scenes (you only see them enter the arena & start to walk/run down the ramp), all single wrestler entrances so if you team together Team 3D or L.A.X...they all enter seperately, the "X" version of Chris Sabin (in his non-Motor City Machine Gun attire) & A.J. Styles (his pre-2007 look with shorts instead of tights) don't have entrances, and certain arenas (Armory & Mexico) don't show wrestler entrances but again, that's only if you really care about something minor like that.

I will give here is that I'll give TNA credit for trying to do a different type of "storyline mode" than the usual "wrestling only" storylines but again..there are so many flaws. First of all, you can only play as this fictional character...you can't play story mode with your favorite TNA character. Unlike the WWE games where you can pick different options to play different storylines, you don't have that here so once you beat the game...that's it, game over. Most of the time throughout the game, your playing these unknown fictional wrestlers over & over again (including two guys who are obivious ripoffs of Insane Clown Posse) while playing each of the TNA wrestlers once throughout the game so your seeing & playing more non-TNA guys throughout the game than the actual TNA roster itself...around half of the unlockable characters in the game are these generic unknown wrestlers. Speaking of the unlockables, you get all of them through winning your matches when you complete the storymode the first time. So after playing the storyline mode once, there's no replay value in the game.

Honestly, this game with worth around half ($15) at the most of what's being charged for it most places (around $30) because once I played & finished it in around 3 days...it's been on DVD/game rack collecting dust while the other WWE games I can continue playing based off the fact that I have different wrestlers with highly different movesets to play storymode with each time. This is a game I would only recommend for renting because you'll get your all your money's worth in the two to three days you'll play & defeat this game.

SIDE NOTE: For those wondering what the content of the Bonus DVD that came with this game from GameStop was...
Ultimate X Match: A.J. Styles vs. Petey Williams vs. Chris Sabin from Final Resolution 2005
Ultimate X Match: L.A.X. vs. Triple H (Senshi & Elix Skipper) from Bound for Glory 2007
Elevation X Match: Rhino vs. A.J. Styles from Destination X 2007
King of the Mountain Match: Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe vs. Chris Harris vs. A.J. Styles vs. Christian Cage from Slammiversary 2007
TerrorDome/Steel Asylum Match featuring various "X Division" wrestlers from Sacrifice 2008.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad for the First Time, November 1, 2008
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: TNA Impact! (Video Game)
If you have played a current gen version of this game (which is really pretty fun), then you will find the ps2 version very...very lacking. No character creation, and a relatively limited roster make for a game that just cannot compete with SvR. For some reason, for almost every game that has been multi-platform recently, the developers just didn't take the time to put the same features on the ps2 versions as they to the current gen versions, even when the system has the ability to support them. But, you have to understand that this is TNA's first try, not to mention the developer they went with has never made a wrestling game before. Consider that, and they did a pretty nice job. I just wish they held back the release date a few more weeks so they could put all the features on the ps2 version. So skip this one, unless you are a die hard TNA fan, and wait until the next installment that will undoubtedly make up for all of this games rookie mistakes. Expect TNA iMPACT! the game to equal and even surpass SvR in the coming years.

1.0 out of 5 stars TNA: Not So Much Impact, September 9, 2008
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: TNA Impact! (Video Game)
Lack of game modes. Short, and cheesy story mode. Entrances are 15 second cutscenes. The gameplay itself isnt terrible, but after you finish the story mode the game has little to no replay value. A huge disappointment for how many years theyve been working on it. Save your money, rent it if you have to, dont buy it.
