3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Follow Up To Bound For Glory, January 14, 2006
By
D.P. (California) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)
This review is from: TNA Wrestling: Genesis 2005 (DVD)
Just like WWE usually has a great follow up PPV to WrestleMania called Backlash, TNA was able to do the same thing with their Genesis PPV. I liked Bound For Glory better but this was a nice follow up. This also happened the same day as Eddie Guerrero's death so there are references to him by Konnan & Team 3D throughout the show.

Pre-Show: Shark Boy vs. Nigel McGinness - Honestly, nothing special here to remember.

Pre-Show: The Naturals & Lance Hoyt vs. Diamonds In The Rough - Nice six man tag match.

Raven vs. PJ Polaco a.k.a. Justin Credible - This wasn't exactly an ECW style brawl like we've seen before but there was some great storytelling here by Raven.

Hockey Stick Fight w/Kip James as referee: Team Canada vs. 3 Live Kru - Fun match to watch.

Christian Cage makes his TNA debut & shoots on the WWE - Basically, Christian makes his debut only a few days (Taboo Tuesday was earlier in the week) after leaving WWE to address all the rumors regarding his contract situation and basically says what alot of the former WWE fans have been saying about their product for the past couple of months.

Jeff Hardy vs. "Alpha Male" Monty Brown - Not a wild brawl but better than I expected.

Elimation X Match: Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe, Alex Shelly, Roderick Strong vs. Chris Sabin, Matt Bentley, Sonjay Dutt, Austin Aries - Great Survivor Series type battle between these eight with alot of the famous high spots & actual wrestling by each wrestler. However, the aftermath with Samoa Joe & Christopher Daniels is more memorable than anything else.

No DQ Match: Sabu vs. Abyss - Not on the same level as their involvement in Monster's Ball but it's still a nice brawl between the two. Not many weapons used but it served it's purpose.

X Division Champion AJ Styles vs. Petey Williams - This match heavily makes up for their match a year earlier between the two at Victory Road (same match on "Best Of The X Division" DVD).

Rhino/Team 3D a.k.a. Dudley Boyz vs. Jeff Jarrett/America's Most Wanted - This match resemembles an old school ECW style brawl with them brawling all over the building in this one. A great & wild six man tag match.

The DVD extras are basically just backstage footage of wrestlers before & after their matches.

Again, I recommend but I would get Bound For Glory first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Home Run For TNA, January 20, 2006
This review is from: TNA Wrestling: Genesis 2005 (DVD)
This was an awesome PPV from TNA. TNA has just been on a roll with PPV's ever since they started doing 3 hour shows. Bellow is the card with a Five Star Rating System.

PRESHOW: SHARK BOY vs. NIGEL MCGUINNESS
This match was the opener before the PPV. It might be on the DVD since TNA are now adding the pre-shows as extras which is a good idea. It was your typical match from what I remember. They have had better openers. *1/2

PRESHOW: THE DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH vs. THE NATURALS & LANCE HOYT
This was a good match featuring the return of Chase Stevens from The Naturals. Stevens had suffered a broken neck weeks before. This was better then the following match and got the crowd going for the PPV. Orlando loves Lance Hoyt. **1/2

RAVEN vs. ???
This opening match on the show featured Raven takeing on an mystery opponent appointed my Larry Z. I wont ruin who it is, but this was a good match. Not horrible, but not amazing. It serves its purpose. **3/4

HOCKEY STICK FIGHT:
TEAM CANADA vs. 3LIVE KRU
(Special Referee: Kip James)
This was a pretty entertaining match. Eric Young is funny as hell in this contest. The purpose of the match was to even the odds since there was four Canadians and three of the Kru. Kip James is added in the ongoing story of "who can you trust?" One of the better matches that these two teams have put on. ***

Christian Cage Debuts.
This was the major acquisition and let me tell you it did not disappoint. I was glad to see a man who has been given the shaft as a single star jump. Christian has an unbelieveable amount of charisma and is an awesome wrestler. This is about 10-20 minute shoot segement which sets up the main event later in the night. *****

CONTENDER'S MATCH:
"THE ALPHA MALE" MONTY BROWN vs. "THE CHARISMATIC ENIGMA" JEFF HARDY
This was better than I thought it was going to be. I just don't understand why the winner never got the shot they deserve. But it was a good showing from both men. ***

ELIMINATION X:
"THE FALLEN ANGEL" CHRISTOPHER DANIELS, "THE SAMOAN SUBMISSION MACHINE" SAMOA JOE, ALEX SHELLEY, & RODERICK STRONG vs. CHRIS SABIN, MATT BENTLEY, SONJAY DUTT, & AUSTIN ARIES
TNA's answer to the Survivor Series. This was a fantastic match that had a few surprise's thrown into it. I was very glad this match was given about 30 minutes as all of these men deserve that kind of time limit. *****

NO DISQUALIFICATION MATCH:
SABU VS. "THE MONSTER" ABYSS
I was surprised to see these two men compete in another hardcore type match, just coming off the Bound For Glory Monster's Ball. It was a brutal match that set's up the Final Encounter at Turning Point. That PPV is a must buy also. Sick bumps that both men take, more so Sabu. *****

TNA X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH:
"THE PHENOMENAL" AJ STYLES (c) vs. "THE CANADIAN DESTROYER" PETEY WILLIAMS
Tne only title match of the night. Which was a good thing and bad thing. This was better then the last title match these two put on from Victory Road one year ago. This time AJ was champ and both men are extremely hard workers. This is what WWE wishes there "crusier weight division" was. Just an awesome match. *****

MAIN EVENT:
TEAM 3D & RHINO vs. NWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION, JEFF JARRETT & NWA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS, AMERICA'S MOST WANTED
Before the match took place, Team 3D and Rhino cut a promo backstage. The best part is the fact that all three pay tribute Eddie, since he passed away early in the day. R.I.P. Eddie.

The match was just a brawl all over the building and was not really a six man tag match. It was a good main event and was better then the last six man tag match that was supposed to be the main event that featured: Nash, Hall and Jarrett vs. Hardy Styles and Macho Man from the previous Turning Point. This match made me forget all about that one. *****

After the match Christian came back out as it was time to choose. TNA or Team Jarrett. Im sure by know everyone knows what happened. So Jarrett recieves a 3D through the table at the hands of the Dud....I mean Team 3D and Christian.

A great show that keeps TNA PPV record going. The extras are the pre-show at the begining of the PPV and never before seen backstage footage. Plus what happened when Genesis went off the air. Deff a must buy as almost every match was awesome.
