Biography

Enigma are an electronic band who incorporate ambient, house and new age themes into their music. The driving force behind Enigma is Michael Cretu who, along with Sandra Cretu, David Fairstein and Frank Peterson, set up the project in 1990. Due to the way that Enigma build their tracks, they found themselves in court on more than one occasion in disputes over sampled sounds and music. This… Read more in Amazon's Enigma Store

4.0 out of 5 stars An Exotic Journey, October 10, 2000
By
Mrs. Ana R Santos (London, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: TNT for the Brain (Audio CD)
"T.N.T for the Brain" is one of the few songs from "Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi" that stand out. As is traditional with Enigma it has a sensual feeling to it. The breathy voice of Sandra Cretu, the beat of the exotic drums, and the rich background make for a very erotic and exotic feel. This particular CD single comes with the album version and radio edit of the song. These are nothing special. The jewels of this CD are the Midnight Man Remix, which speeds up the song a bit, adds a club beat, and an interesting sounding musical rift overtop. This remix was previously only available I believe in the U.K. on it's own CD. The other jewel is the instrumental version of "T.N.T for the brain." The background for this song is very lush. One of the rare songs that can be expirienced with or without words and still have it's magic. It comes in a sublime jewel case with a colourful cover. (The american version of this CD single comes in a fat jewel case with no cover.) It is one of the forgotten songs of Enigma, but a good one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wowzer, January 4, 2004
This review is from: TNT for the Brain (Audio CD)
'It's real. It's Pure. TNT For The Brain.'

This tune is absolutely amazing. There is real power in TNT For The Brain without the use of bombastics. It feels loud without actually being so and has a terrific pulse that will drastically alter whatever mood you may be in. Enigma created lyrical and melodic magic with this track. The album version and the slightly shorter radio edit are the best examples of pure musical genius.

The midnight man remix is breathtaking. It abandons the lyrics (only sticking to the minimum of words) and goes, full swing, into re-imagining the melody in a different (but nonetheless magical) direction.

The instrumental mix gives a chance for the music to come thru on it's own without the need for the lyrics to dominate what is one of the best tunes ever. All mixes evoke feelings of eroticism, violence, grace and power. And always enticing you to dance.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Midnight Man Mix is AWEINSPIRING!, July 3, 2002
This review is from: TNT for the Brain (Audio CD)
TNT For The Brain is in my opinion the wierdest track on Enigma3. There are four versions of this single. There is the radio edit which ends instead of fading out, and the instrumental which is basically the original but with the vocals gone, and the parent album mix.

That is not all.

There is one remix of this single that absolutely took me by storm. It's the Midnight Man Mix.

The MM mix is absolutely erotic and a masterpiece work of art. It's a lot darker, more ambient, and much MUCH better than the regular mix. I enjoy the regular mix but the Midnight Man Mix beats that one by a mile. It's a very dark, haunting, erotic, brooding and intense remix that is from what I can say is blueer in sound but not blue sky like sunny but I mean dark blue sky like as in cloudy evening. This song is absolutely incredible. I only wished that the Midnight Man mix would have been included on the parent album because it would have been awesome of the brightness of The Child In Us would merge into the darkness of the Midnight Man version of TNT because I think they blend together so well even with almost opposite atmospheres. So much of that so-called 'sex appeal' music that you hear on the top 40 isn't sexy at all. Destinys Child Bootylicious is absolutely disgusting and is the stupidest song I ever heard. TNT For The Brain my friends is music that expresses TRUE sex appeal.

Although I love this mix there isn't a whole lot of need to buy this item because this remix is available on the LSD Greatest Hits collection although it's 40 seconds shorter but it blends well into modern crusaders. If you don't want the ending to be merging into another song then I say get this item.

Believe me the only thing that could've been better is if The Child In Us merged into the Midnight Man mix of this song and then this song merged into the 11 minute 43 second track Sadeness. It would've made the perfect three track combo.
