First class Documentation,
By A Customer
This review is from: TOAD Handbook (Paperback)
For most TOAD users, a decent general purpose reference for understanding TOAD's plethora of features - especially the DBA module's more advanced screens, wizards and utilities.

Already Out of Date,

This review is from: TOAD Handbook (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
This review is of the 2nd Edition, published September 2009. The version of TOAD it's written for (9.7) is a year old and the new version (10) comes out next week. I realize you have to have a product before documentation, but I thought with the book coming out now as the same time as the new version it would be written to include some TOAD 10 information. Release a book with the new version of the software, isn't that how it's usually done? The beta is public so we've known what is coming for a while but no such luck here.
Don't get me wrong, the book is still useful, but not near as much as it would be if written for the version of TOAD we'll all be using by the end of October.

Great for TOAD users who want to get more out of the tool,

This review is from: TOAD Handbook (Paperback)
I've been using TOAD for a few years, but like most users, tended to only use a few of the controls. I knew the product could do more, and could probably be more useful, but I never had the time to explore.
This book suits my purposes well. From just reading the first part of the book I was able to customise and de-clutter screens which was of immediate benefit. The book is well-suited to jumping in to relevant sections and skipping others of less interest. Whenever I have a few minutes to spare, I can usually browse through the book and find some feature that I wasn't aware of.

Learn how to use TOAD and what it can do,

This review is from: TOAD Handbook (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
My company recently bought my new license to TOAD 10, and with that cost - I wanted to learn how to use this tool as best I can to increase my productivity using TOAD 10. The book arrived today - and I have been going back and forth between the software and the book - and I am learning things about what it can do - that do not stand out until you have them pointed out. So for me this is a worthwhile purchase.
This is the 2nd Edition of the book (version 9.7 of TOAD), and it went to press in Sept 2009 as version 10 was coming out. So far I am not dissapointed and I expect to be more productive as a result. (TOAD is said to be the most widely used Oracle IDE there is on the windows platform). The book does try to speak to a large audience, from Novice to Advanced. So there may be parts that may seem elementary- I understand the need to have it in the book(it will have a large audience of users). The version of TOAD that I am using is the Developer edition, so some of the discussions that are for the DBA edition are interesting, however they are not available to use. The book is clearly written, with some attempts at humour that seem like a joke from a presentation style (It keeps it from being too dry a style). If you have not really explored TOAD and its abilities before, this will be a useful book and worth the purchase price. I think even the long time users might still get an A-ha moment.

A perfect companion to the O'Reilly Reference Book,
By
This review is from: TOAD Handbook (Paperback)
While I enjoy the brevity and straightforwardness of the Toad Pocket Reference for Oracle, this book really gave a lot of insight as to WHY and HOW I could use Toad to accomplish my daily tasks with Toad.
It was also great to see that the things I'm doing as an Oracle professional are in line with what Bert and Dan are advocating.

Pretty Neat Book,
By The Programinator (Readyville, TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: TOAD Handbook (Paperback)
Useful book for users new to TOAD, especially those who don't want to or have the time to play and feel their way around products or software that are new to them.
Not something without which one cannot survive but something that is really useful to keep handy.

I was expecting more from this book like some shortcuts but the book was just an overview.

An update to this book is long overdue,
This review is from: TOAD Handbook (Paperback)
I should have paid more attention to the reviews by recent reviewers prior to purchasing this book. If you're using any Toad version after 7.x, you're not going get much out of this book.
And, overall, I found the book to be poorly organized and hard to follow.

out-of-date,

The book doesn't cover the current version of the product. If it is the only source of help for TOAD, then it doesn't help as the product is not at all like the book's version.
