TOP METAL ALBUMS OF 2009

A Listmania! list by Amazon Customer "Izzy D." (Denver)
The list author says: "2009 turned out to be a great year for metal, even though I wasn't expecting much out of it coming in. I ended up realizing the southern sludge-phsychadelic stoner metal thing is for real. I also had my faith restored in American metal. American bands definately dominated the year with up and coming acts, as well as the old school metal veterans kicking in to make it one of the best years of the decade for metal, if not the best.

Honorable mentions include Candlemass, Converge, Mystic Prophecy, Saint Deamon, Cannibal Corpse, Epica, and Goatwhore.

I must say it was a horrible year for Power Metal, which is one of my favorite styles of metal, along with Melodic Death Metal, and Thrash. Despite the fact that many prominent Power bands such as Hammerfall, Stratovarious, and Sonata Arctica released albums, no true Power Metal band made it on the list. The closest bands to Power to make the list were Savage Circus and Wolf. Hopefully Gamma Ray will lead the way next year for a Power Metal comeback."
