Don't know if it's worth the $$, October 19, 2005
This review is from: Instant Immersion French Platinum (CD-ROM)
I took 6 years of French courses a few years ago, and I bought this program to start back up on French again. There's two parts: the computer program and the audio discs.
The Computer Prgram is the reason I rated this software a little low. The most irritating part was the "voice recognition." I thought that MAYBE my pronunciation had suffered, so I cheated and recorded the guy speaking in the program. IT STILL DIDN'T WORK. There was only one case of this - the rest I was able to say on my own and pass the recognition part.
The eight audio CDs are pretty good and comprehensive though. My only complaint was the overpronunciation of the last syllables of some words. For example, they stress the last "t" in J'habite enough that it sounds like they're pronouncing the last "e" which SHOULD remain silent.
I would still recommend this program to anyone who has a couple years background in French and wants to refresh their knowledge of the language - even expand their vocabulary a bit. However, if someone is new to the language, I would look elsewhere.

Instant Immersion French Platinum, July 7, 2007
This review is from: Instant Immersion French Platinum (CD-ROM)
This is an excellent product for reviewing French. It includes a vast array of pronunciation, word puzzle, and grammatic exercises for both audio recognition of the spoken language and visual association of the written language. For less than half the price, it is essentially identical to Auralog's "Tell Me More" French, less headphone/microphone (which can be picked up at Circuit City or Radio Shack for about $20).
The only reason I would not give five stars to this product is that it starts at a fairly high level, thus it may not be best for absolute beginners. However, for those who have had some French and want to review/extend their knowledge, it is hard to beat.

NOT for beginners, January 15, 2010
This review is from: Instant Immersion French Platinum (CD-ROM)
The easiest level is WAY too hard for beginners. I have little knowledge of french and rather than single word recognition or grammer it's asking me to respond to questions. This instant immersion is like being thrown in the deep end. Also voice recognition is a little mediocre. Still after I get better elsewhere it may be pretty good.

Not what I hoped for, even after calling the company, January 4, 2007
This review is from: Instant Immersion French Platinum (CD-ROM)
I loved the Instant Immersion 33 Languages set and chose to concentrate on the French one. I did so well I wanted to choose a home based language program from the same company that would take me to a much higher level. While still a very beginner, we called the company to be sure we purchased the appropriate set. It even states that you can be an absolute novice but when you begin the program and set it up for a complete beginner, you have to match phrases- and how can you do that if you are a novice? So disappointed...
