The PC edition is easy to use and quick to install--just load the CD into your PC, follow the installation procedure, then put the CD away! You don't need the CD to run the Road Atlas. There's no Internet access required; it's always available.
And there are no more menus, either: everything you need is on the innovative three-window screen: search, maps, and directions. A full-screen view is never more than one click away so you can find and route your excursions efficiently.
Be prepared for the road with printable maps and personalized itineraries, which include directions, page and grid references, mileages, and estimated driving times. Page and grid references correspond to the printed Rand McNally Road Atlas. Get where you're going on U.S., Canadian, and Mexican major roads. And get address-to-address directions within 83 major U.S. cities. Searching is simple, too--it doesn't matter if you have only a bit of information. Search for locations by name, address, or proximity.
Or--do you need a city or state map? A special Street Maps button finds 83 city maps, while the State Maps button finds the state map you want. There's no need to retrace steps. After you find something, you can easily go there again without having to retype a thing--a search history shows previous requests. Back and forward buttons quickly jump to previous map views, so there's no need to zoom and pan to find the map you were just looking at.
The atlas includes U.S. restaurants, hotels, and attractions, too, so you can choose where to eat and where to stay from among thousands of Mobil Travel Guide star-rated restaurants and hotels. Visit museums, national parks, golf courses, amusement parks, landmarks, and more.

Passable software,

Basically take Rand McNally Tripmaker and update the interface. I don't even think they updated the road database (c) says 2000 but I must admit the interface is easier to use so if you are looking for a simple city to city travel guide (place to place will only work if the place you are looking for is in one of the 83 full city guides they have in the program) that is easy to use then this is for you. If you want more map detail try Streets and Trips or Delorme Street Atlas.

Shame on Rand McNally- This software is terrible. This reminds me of 1990 software. Just buy the hard copy Atlas. MapTech makes the best affordable mapping products available.

Total Garbage,

Avoid this at all costs! First of all, you can only navigate in a TINY window within an annoying an unnecessary "skin". The maps are not detailed at all and it's annoying to have to zoom in and out with a button click (mouse wheel doesn't work) and the detail is EXTREMELY poor. Also, it works against you by having to move around in that tiny window. Don't waste your money!!! This is [bad] and we should expect better. I wonder if the folks at Rand McNally use their own software for navigation. Probably not.
