4th grade project,
This review is from: SAT VocabMaster (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
Yes, that is what this program looks like: a 4th grade computer project. The program has 4 rounds for each group of words (there are 12 groups of 30 words). The first gives a word, the definition, a sentence and a picture. Usually, the picture doesn't have ANYTHING to do with the word. 2nd gives you the word and the picture and you have to guess the definition. This is terrible because one's short-term memory will kick in and just associate the picture with the definition without even looking at the word. Then the 3rd round gives the word, no picture and you have to guess the definition. I did horribly with this round because I couldnt associate the words with any of the definitions unless I somehow made a connection myself. Finally, the 4th round, the most creative of them all (yes, sarcasm), gives you a sentence and you have to pick from 4 of the words for which one fits in the sentence. This is the WORST part because not only do they use the SAME EXACT sentence from the first round so you don't even need to know what the word means, you just have to remember the first round, AND most of the blanks in the sentences could be filled with so many words. The sentences weren't definitive so there was no way to even make an educated guess. You would just guess randomly. Don't waste your money on this program or waste the time trying to see if I was right about it. I am completely dissatisfied and I now need to find something else to help with my vocabulary for the SATs. Anyone have any suggestions?
